TIL not to press harder on a drill when a screw just isn't going into the round pipe you are holding with your other hand - the hard way. The bad news is my hand hurts. The good news is I might get a cool phillips-head-shaped scar.

Sounds like someone was too tired to correctly assess the situation. It does happens when you're overly set on achieving something.

Nah, just overconfident and a bit unlucky. Pun intended.

i did the same thing with a drill bit about 10 years ago. was an interesting rest of the day, running around to the ER to get x-rayed to make sure there weren't any metal shavings from drilling in the wound...

I've posted this before but I'm blaming you for me posting again.

I think these nannies can lead to risk compensation. For a made up example: I like to text and drive, I have lane departure warning, so I can now text for longer.
My Suzuki has Blind Spot Monitoring (permanently turned off) but the manual states 21!! reasons why it might not work as intended. And if I forget to turn off Autonomous Emergency Braking it doesn't take long for me to be reminded to turn it off. (I don't forget very often but it has to be done each start up.) It is so stupid, so damn intrusive.

TIL that moms would play that psychological warfare with kids to get them to eat the breadcrust.

If you had curls, and didn't eat the crust, you'd lose em.
If you didn't have curls, and didn't the crust, you'd never grow them
If blonde, the hair would turn black.

Not eating bread crust would make the bread come chase you at night.
Not eating crust would leave you with a lack of vitamins and important nutrients.

Burning the toast came with a lot of consequences.

I grew up pretty poor in Honduras, so it was never an issue with bread crust because we had to eat whatever we could, and bread was the cheapest thing to afford.
Anyway, pretty funny article https://getpocket.com/explore/item/t...=pocket-newtab

I'm glad I got you "started".. My wife and I recently went out in the new car.. She was reluctant, wanted to go out in the Blue car. I convinced her that the nanny shit was banished.. Much better drive.. didn't feel like a jerk for jerking the wheel or applying brakes without any reason...

I have one of these in my pocket about 80% of the time. Saves a lot of hassle, and star shaped scars.

We had a pilot hole already drilled, the screw just wouldn't bite. The smart thing would have been to stop and drill a larger pilot hole. I, not being so smart, decided to press just a bit harder and the screw kicked out. Later we drilled a bigger pilot hole.

Ahh, yeah that will happen. I've been bit by self tappers before.
