Let's also add in.
Ship = Lot's of containers.
Truck = Usually a single one.

Average family income, Canada:
1975: 50k
2015: 70k

Average house price, Toronto:
1975: 60k
2015: ~700k

Average tuition costs, Canada:
1975: $550
2015: $6200

Remember these numbers next time you tell someone younger than you that it just comes down to hard work.
I am well aware of these things. I just thought it was fun to see a sub $300 bill for a complete engine replacement.
But NOOOOO it has to become a "Look how hard us young guys have it shut up boomer" thing.

Even then you are wrong since it appears that you used this site http://www.ccsd.ca/factsheets/fs_avgin.htmlwhich converts all the years into 1995 dollars. The actual median family income in 1975 dollars (which you are showing costs in) was $14,000. Be rich as hell if the average was $50K in 1975.

Not to mention that at least in the US $14,000 1975 dollars is the equivalent of, wait for it, about $77,000 in 2023.

Wouldn't that also mean that the actual median family income in 2015 was higher than $70K?

Median income is usually below the average.

The whole data stream posted is skewed by dollar values.

Exactly. If you bring everything up to 2023 values it changes everything.

If you crumple them up tight and stomp them down, you can still use them for insulation.

Unless they are intermodal and they get put on a train for most of their trip.

Actually a quick check shows that in 1975 the Canadian dollar was valued at about $1.05 US so it would have cost more in US funds!

I reject your statement on the grounds that it is inconvenient for my joke.
