Has anyone done an apples to apples comparison of this versus the Mazda 3 hatch with AWD Turbo?

I haven't driven either, but my assessment is they are basically polar opposite in every way except the relatively small hatch/cargo capability (the 3 being a bit better) and relatively high power for their size.

The 3 isn't available in a manual in the AWD turbo configuration, right?

No, because it's not apples to apples. It's hand built, 300hp with driver adjustable AWD and power going to all four wheels. Versus, a production 185hp FWD with a computer deciding which, if any, rear wheel might get a little power.

How so? Mazda 3 is (from an admittedly quick google) only ~100 pounds heavier in curb weight. It has an arguably nicer interior, which is part of that.

I’ve driven a few Mazda3 Turbos at work. The Mazda is more refined and more suitable as a daily driver if you want something a little more comfortable. But, like someone said it’s not really an apples to apples comparison.

The GR Corolla feels like a special-built car from the get-go. The boomy exhaust, the firm ride (it has a stiffer ride than my GR86), and the immersive feel of the engine is what really differentiates it.

Did you check the front springs for the shipping spacers? Lol. Also, mine for what ever reason had all the tires set to 51 psi. Feels better now that I've dropped it. Gonna drop it some more to the 33/35 psi Toyota recommends.

Lol of course! I even asked the sales people if I can keep them, it makes a nice souvenir with the GR logo lol. I haven’t checked my air pressure though but it’s been cold so I want to say it’s ok. The ride is firm but in a good, performance car-kind of way lol.
