LSD Options / Recommendations
Looking into upgrading my differential. I am looking at REM coating the gears and going with an upgraded LSD. The Cusco differential cover also looks mighty nice.
Any preferences or recommendations between a Cusco Type RS 1.5 and an OS Giken SuperLock? This is for circuit use, not drift. It will be used on a 400+whp car with slicks. Thanks all. |

You may want to have a discussion about this with an experienced resource rather than trying to glean info from a forum. Talk with Counterspace Garage about the pros and cons of each available option. They have the knowledge to point you in the right direction while taking into account your goals and priorities.

Good idea Pat, I did read the thread below, but figured to ask since options and designs may have changed since 2016.

I swear by the OS Giken LSDs. The factory torsen LSD was actually my first complaint about the car.

I went with OSGiken 1.5-way on my LS3 FD. For track work, my preference is minimal breakaway torque with increased lock with applied torque from the ramps. In OSG this means more "negative preload". Went over my application and preferences with OSG tech and was very pleased with the result. Very transparent in operation, always provided max drive grip on corner exit. I would go in with an idea of what specific lockup characteristics you want and they can set you up with custom tune if that is required.

OSGiken units have a great reputation within the motorsports community, but keep in mind there will be set-up changes required to get the most out of the diff. I know quite a few people who have installed them, and the cars became pushy as the rear grip level out of a corner went way up. They made set-up adjustments and now love them.

Sounds like OSG is the ticket. Thanks everyone for your input here.

OSG all the way, talk to Shaftworks USA.
Cusco rear diff cover seems pretty "meh" since it's not smooth inside at all and the flow off the ring gear won't be smooth. See Banks' videos on youtube about their diff covers for trucks to see what I mean.

Correct, you want as little breakaway torque and as little lock as you can handle in most cases. A diff that's locked hard all the time just makes horrible entry understeer and snappy oversteer on exit because the car won't want to turn until you get some wheelspin.
