yeah, i had a decent amount in my hsa, and then a root canal went bad...
i've always liked the hsa just because it allows me to put money directly where i use it instead of paying off other peoples expenses! one coworker complains all the time that the company has an hsa plan instead of something including dental and vision. but of course any plan with dental/vision coverage would be more than $500/yr/person. but out of pocket with the hsa, it's less than $250 for the appointments.

I think my dental plan is a net loss. Mostly because only a few places are "in network" and they're... not places I want to go. I guess being in network is how you get people through the door to practice.
In other news... I'm not young any more. 3 days crawling behind walls and in weird tiny corners practicing my contortions and running conduit and wires and all sorts of other home maintenance chores and I'm in pain. So very much looking forward to the potential heavy frozen water I have to clear to demonstrate even more ways in which I'm not young. Getting old sucks. Mostly.

I'd have to have been lucky enough to have kids to get to having in-laws or grandkids, so that's out. Still time I suppose... but other things would have to change so that seems quite unlikely. As long as you remember the stories, where you're headed at the moment, and what you like to eat... I think you're doing just fine.

People at work get offended when I say "don't talk to me right now" when I am walking through the building, but it is because I am trying to not forget what I am doing. Further explanation on why has derailed my original task more times then I can count

That's an easy one, hold up a finger politely and say "Sorry <insert one word here), will get back to you" without slowing down. You can use "boss", "urgent" , "late" or even "bathroom", "potty" or "throwing up" with a gag added in for effect.

I was carrying a small notepad for a while but I would always put it down and forget it, or get to my desk and realize I left it in the shop. They just need to hire a purchasing guy so I don't have to split so much time between the shop and office.
