The Cayman seems to have more support over the 911, but many Porsche fanatics believe in upgrading with OEM products, so a big brake kit for a Cayman is just upgrading to 911 brakes. There are some tail lights. There are some interior products. There are suspension and body kits, but overall, the quantity of options is night and day. This is abundantly clear when we examine the forced induction options for the Cayman versus the 86. The 86 has five positive displacement options, it has five centrifugal options, it has an electric centrifugal option, and it has twenty-seven turbo kits listed in the FI section. There are probably more out there from smaller shops or on eBay from cheap sources. There are a number of CARB legal kits. There are a number of swap kits for the 86 like the K2x, LS and 2JZ. I'm aware of only one FI for the Cayman, and I'm aware of no off-the-shelf swap kits. Most swaps are to the 3.8L 911 engine, and these engines are often more expensive than a used 86.

If you want to go nuts with the Cayman then you need to have deep pockets to go custom. If you want a lightly modified daily then it is a good platform. If someone wanted FI in a Cayman then just get the 718. If someone wants to swap the Cayman then just get the 4.0 GTS/GT4.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that was confused by the "aftermarket support" comment they made. I was looking at what kind of modifications could be made to the Cayman when I was considering getting one, and the answer seemed to be just buy a faster Porsche if you want a faster Porsche, and that gets really expensive.

When I was very seriously considering a 12-16 S, IIRC, there was an upgraded intake manifold, along with headers and a tune that added some pretty significant power.

But it was like $6500-7k for those 3 things I think. It's been a few years since I looked at all that stuff.

Dundon Motorsports is close to one of the tracks I frequent. They often bring out a trailer during track days and help out customers and potential customers. A guy I work with used to have a 981 and was looking at their street power package. It's like 18K for exhaust, intake and tune lol.

Ace header and a Harrop SC and 350+whp sounded pretty good too. High pressure and fast moving air through an equal length header with a 2.5” exhaust for a high pitched scream.

Why not? No different then driving any other rear wheel car in the snow except maybe wider rear tires. But with snows it would work fine.

Well if you couldn’t afford the maintenance your wouldn’t have the Porsche in the first place I suppose. The salt can be washed off.

Yes - total BS on that.

They were basing that on the little graph thingy that displays on the info screen in-car and their subjective butt dynos being fooled by the throttle mapping, but the scaling of that graph is different on the two that they showed. IIRC, the torque curve specifically was scaled differently, so it *looks like* it crosses the HP line at a different point, but the curve shapes are identical.

That bit of BS really made me question the overall technical knowledge of both of them.

I'm going to worry about an old German car. Shit is real expensive to fix and on 17-year-old car- shit is going to break.

And I don't have a garage. My shit is outside in bad winters.
