And completely interchangeable. Don't know what the whole range of the rev limiting ones is but know there were several choices.

Yep, and you said it earlier. Even back in the day I remember the rev limit rotors being like $30, and the solid about $2.50.

The brutal part was trying to even find one. Took it to several auto parts stores just to have Bubba say "what the hell is that thing" and then laugh when I told them and asked if they could get it. Don't remember what it ended up costing from a VW dealership but I do know I paid $75 for the car and it was, or at least seemed like, just about as much.
Looked it up and there is a huge range in prices online with them going from $20 to $150 for the exact same thing. Could have it over night (Overnight Parts From Deutschland?) though.

My right foot was always the rev limiter. No torque up high anyhow. I don't understand why the same engine in a Karman Ghia would suddenly need a rev limiter. Now the fa20... If it wasn't for the limiter, I would have grenaded it long ago, probably many times over.

Knowing what I know now or even just a couple of years later for that matter I would never have bothered getting another rev limiting one. I was just young and naïve and wanted to replace with the same thing. No internet to tell me to chuck it and use the $3 version that would work just as well.

I would've done the same.

Oh and when I was looking them up to see what they cost now I discovered they were used as an option in pretty much all VW engines. I always thought it was just the Ghia since it was the only time I ran across it but apparently any and all could have had one.

Makes sense. I forget that there have always been clueless people out there operating machinery as if it's all magic. There must have been a real need for them.
