'22-'23 Average Oil Temps
Hey all, looking for feedback on your 2nd Gen oil temps!
Where in the temperature range does your oil stay under daily driving conditions? I commute ~30-40min for work of all highway miles. My oil is always able to get fully up-to-temp, and I like to keep an eye on where those temps are hovering just as an engine health data point. As the BRZ does not have an numerical temp gauge like the GR86, I'm basically having to eyeball my temps and 'guess-timate'. It seems like the oil stays between 190-240F, with the average probably ~215F. The higher-end of those temp ranges have come during stop-and-go summer commuting but are not infrequent in 80+ degree weather. What is your guys' experience with the oil temperature in the 2022? Does the 0w-20 leave more to be desired? |

About the same temps, depending on several variables.
Only on the second oil change here. Using Amsoil, but the oil analysis results are good so no reason to change. I did get some Motul 0w20 I may try at some point. |

Commuting via freeway I get about 210-215 max with SoCal summer weather. Temps have stayed the same between using 0w-20 + 5w-30.

This is interesting, as in 2.5L of each weight oil? Any particular reason to mix?

190-200 when highway driving in 70f (about 19c), 230 at the hottest when I'm driving like an idiot during hot weather.

In normal driving, I've never gone over 200 degrees, even when sitting in stop-go traffic on the highway at 100F.
I've not noticed it going much higher when driving aggressively. I've autocrossed it a few times, but never done a track day. |

Dang, really? 200 seems to be the lower-end for me any time it gets over 80 degrees and I'm on the highway more than 30 minutes. This is why I wish I had the GR86's numerical gauge so that I'm not just eyeballing a line.

I know it read it somewhere but now I can't find it in the manual how we change the dash to display oil temp instead of coolant, or add it to the days.
EDIT: Finally found it.

The only time I've seen my oil temps go over the normal point was while doing runs at an autocross event when air temperatures were 95F+. At that point it was probably 220~230, but quickly dropped back to normal as I drove off grid and back to the paddock. |

I also skimmed my manual for this but couldn't find anything quickly. |

I don't think you're going to be taxing the oil one bit with 40 minutes of highway driving.
Not being rude but this is why so many cars don't come with oil temp or pressure gauges. |

Just the right/left buttons on the right side of the steering wheel will toggle through the different screens.
