It also is an issue with just reregistering the car as an owner since it will not pass the CA safety inspection without it. That means pretty much every 2013 86 in CA has had the work done, and any that had a failure because of the work has likely been remediated or is off the road now.

So... ya.... we have enough data to safely say that if it is going to have problems from the recall it is within 20,000 of the work being completed so most are probably good to go even there.

Honesty I trust Subaru/Toyota to have made a stout car/engine. I’m going to wait for prices to drop down from insanity and then look for an older stock model with maintenance history.
I’ll drop in a oil cooler and refresh the suspension, then I’ll be off to reliable races Oh yeah. And retrofit the 2017+ VSC to get the track mode option |

Correct. Calif it’s required however I’m wondering if a buyer elsewhere would be put off if there was an outstanding recall that hadnt been performed?

1) People that hang out on social media and forums that know all about the recall fiasco and have a strong opinion on whether or not to have it done. 2) People that have had casual contact with the recall and don't really care one way or the other. 3) People that would say "What recall?". This is probably the largest group by far. Being on the forum we all assume that everybody is as interested and follow things like we do when really where it is not forced most people just don't care.

That is my point really. Two of the three categories either wouldn't bother reading a Carfax or even if they did wouldn't care if the recall existed much less was done.
Ultimately it comes down to there likely being far more people (outside of California) that whether the recall was done or not would mean absolutely nothing. We are the oddballs that actually followed and had concerns. Personally if I was buying I would not care either way anymore as long as there were at least 10,000 miles put on it after the recall was done. I would not run out and have it done though.

Agreed. I have over 70K miles on mine since the spring recall (geez it was 3.5 years ago now) but if I bought a used model at this point I wouldn't have it done. Pretty much any 2013 that was going to fail because it was repaired, or because it wasn't, has failed unless you find some garage queen that has 100 miles on it.

If you're trading it in on another car at a dealer, you can be assured that the dealer will offer significantly less than a car with all the tsb's checked off.
They'll have all the ducks in rows and ranked battalions in depth and slavering GSDs.

(200,000+ miles, two CARFAX accidents, could use a hood repaint). I'd likely get more value out of it by taking it to a demolition track then selling it for scrap.
