The maximum level set by WHO and National Health and Medical Research Council (Australia) for fluoride in drinking water is 1.5 milligrams per litre.
Drinking too much water will kill you, breathing 98% oxygen will kill you.

Point taken. I think the "TIL" was more that depression wasn't genetic rather but induced by external factors. My reply was actually agreeing saying "of course not, everyone knows it's fluoride." I find it interesting that countries may find medications safe for consumption where other countries say they are not. Whose research is more complete to make the better decision? Why is a life more valuable in one country vs. another?

Fun fact: The link between sugar and cavities was not widely accepted until 1942.

I may wear a tinfoil hat but I do believe...

- Fluoride does contribute to depression, anxiety, and possibly autism
- Prozac was a major factor in emptying the asylums in the US
- Medication commercials are driving the cost of prescriptions through the roof in the US.
- Peanut butter is not evil

Comparisons can also be made to say that purple car owners have a higher rate of depression than those who don't own purple cars. From this you cannot deduce that owning a purple car will make you depressed or that depressed people buy purple cars. There is, however, a correlation between the color car you drive and your credit worthiness (so says the credit agencies).

I have to qualify this because internet.
The local supermarket sells a couple different brands of peanut butter.
From dodgy memory (it's been a long time since I checked) the ingredients were peanuts, salt, sugar!! ffs, emulsifier. For me this does not qualify as peanut butter.
The peanut butter I consume, in greater quantities than I probably should, is purchased from the local markets and contains.....peanuts. That's it.
So to paraphrase your statement "Peanut butter is not evil when contains just peanuts".

To take your point even further, I would have to agree with your statement because to the best of my knowledge no peanut butter of any sort has never committed atrocities, been convicted of treason or even muttered a curse*.
I therefore suggest Vote Peanut Butter! but preferably the unadulterated variety.

* Being smeared on a woman to be eaten (so to speak lol) is not the peanut butter's fault.

Abstract
We established the mouse model of fluoride (68 mg F ion/L deionized water) exposure for 90 days, 120 days and 150 days, and applied diverse methods as behavioral models of anxiety and depression, and analyzed the levels of the anxiety- and depression-like related genes like BDNF1, BDNF4, 5-HT1A, VGLUT, GAD67, and VGAT in the mouse hippocampus. In the mice exposed to NaF for 120 days, compared to the control group, chalky opacity was observed on the enamel of teeth; the results of anxiety-like behavior, like elevated zero maze, light/dark exploration test, novel object recognition test and emergence test were significantly altered, however in the mice exposed for 150 days, only the elevated zero maze and emergence test were significantly altered. Also, the results of depression-like behavior were significantly altered in the 120 days treated mice. Exposure to NaF for 120 days significantly decreased the mRNA expression levels of the BDNF4 with a concomitant increase in the 5-HT1A compared to the control mice. Especially the mRNA expression levels of GAD67 and VGAT were significantly decreased in all the three NaF treated groups. However, no significant changes were observed in the mRNA expression levels of the VGLUT compared to the control mice. In summary, we speculated that fluoride exposure had adverse effects on nervous system, inducing an imbalance between excitation and inhibition, which resulted in abnormal behavior and depression.
Oh wow. I thought you were joking (hard to tell nowadays).
Don't we put flouride in the water?
Oddly enough, NOT brushing your teeth can be a symptom of depression.
I wonder if brushing your teeth with no toothpaste is a solution. Hmmm...
I'll go halfsies with you on our new million dollar idea: flouride free toothpaste. (does this exist already?)

I'm switching to bleach! I doubt there are any studies that say bleach ingestion is a no-go! It does so much good!
