2015 FA20 engine in 2013 car
Have a question. I have a 2013 FRS base 6 speed with 62,000 miles. We bought it with a blown engine. Bought a 2015 engine with 30,000 miles installed it and it's stuck in limp mode 4k max. Thought maybe needed to drive to relearn everything, didn't work. Found out the wiring harnesses are different. So we changed out harness and all sensors and electronics from the 2013 engine, didn't change fuel injection parts. Only driven about 25 miles since changing that stuff. Still won't go above 4k. Any ideas?

The ignition coil connectors are different too. Did you change them?

i believe the cam sensors are different as well. first engine iteration was a sensor wheel with four 'tits' sticking up for sensing, 15+ is 4 'divots', basically entirely opposite sensing

found this thread:
https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84282 there's also this pdf for the '17 model year changes, they did some incremental changes in '15 that were detailed above. engine mods start at page 71 https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/file...17MY_BRZ_1.pdf on page 85, it talks about the cam angle sensor plates i was previously talking about. and i was incorrect. they moved from 'valleys', to 'tits' on the '17 model. but it's still a drastic difference in sensor methods

I didn't have time to completely read through the links but, are there any obvious external differences on the engine that op can use to distinguish which engine he has. Also the 2nd link is marked "Confidential". Did it come from Mar-A-Lago? |

No obvious differences in the two engines, the coil packs have different wiring, changed harness used 2013 coils

Ok if its got no codes and toyota\subaru cannot work it out im guessing its a tuned ecu and one of the leatures like launch flat foot shift auto blip could ve the issue
Usually with standard limp mode you get DTC code from one or more modules triggering limp Check clutch derection switch this can trigger launcg flat foot shift mode or auto blip and srop car reving over a certian rpm im assuming it wont rev over 4000 when its stationary and when moving do you have a software tool like oft tactrix or ecutek to read ecu data or at leat log data ? if we can see some logs of what happens at 4000 might be a clue |

Oh also with car on engine running and cruise control off, try pulling back on cruise stalk if rpm indicated on tacometer jumps to 1000 2000 3000 or 4000 without the engine rpm changing then its got an ecutek tune
