Seems you can't do anything on line these days. Pop up adds and such kill everything. I want to go back to a phone on the kitchen wall and a newspaper on the porch. I feel old.

Combine Ad-block plus, Disable HTML 5 autoplay, and disable third party cookies and it will be like surfing the internet in 1997 again but without all the noise on startup.

So that half the calls you get are duct cleaning or other phone solicitors and the paper will be 75% advertising?

The internet probably has far less intrusive things than either of the old school media’s but you spend so much time there it seems worse.

How many hours a week did you ever spend on a landline or reading a paper? I bet it wasn’t more than 4 or 5. Now how many hours a week do you spend on the internet?

Ads in print media are much easier to ignore though. In fact, I don't even register them.

I've gotten to that point with online media as well, except for the most egregious sites which are more ads than content. I just don't go to those sites any longer.

...and having to click on the text link of 1_NOV21348234999999.mov on car domain or streetfire hoping that the following 25minute download resulted in the video clip you wanted to see. That is assuming media player and quicktime were both up to date, and the link wasn't a random virus or the occasional porn clip.

Spun up a pi.hole server the other day and it's amazing what it does with ads (they disappear almost entirely - unless there's a new source in town). Even in-game ads and stuff where browser extensions don't work.
