I did come up with snappy replies and they were fun for a bit but eventually it boiled down to "oh good one".

Asking how tall you are and thinking you are being uniquely witty because you "made up" a joke are rather different scenarios.
If every person asked "how's the air up there?" as if it was the first time it was ever said then it would wear you down to the point that a response is no longer any more fun than the question.

The whole thing was simply that what you feel may be a funny and off the wall prank/comment is no longer funny nor off the wall to people that have seen/heard it hundreds of times.

My current one is when I tell people we are having hearing tests done and they say "What?"

You aren't going to change human nature. Take it as a compliment that people want to interact with you. At least reply with over-the-top sarcasm like, "HAHAHA... I need to remember that!"

Wow! Completely unintended consequence. It started when, after all these years, I finally looked up the meaning of PS.

Damn! Missed opportunity. I could have posted my discovery here.

In the US that's called prostitution.

Or... Gigolo. Since this is in Tokyo I guess it would be Jigogo.
(Sorry for the typo. Should have been Jigoro)

TIL smog checks are going away in Idaho. Yay!

On March 22, 2022, Governor Little signed Senate Bill 1254, which repeals the emission testing requirement in Idaho Code Section 39-116B. Per the text of the bill, the action becomes effective July 1, 2023.

They determined that 99% of all cars pass first time, so testing cars isn't a smart use of resources.

TIL my county doesn't require emissions testing. I thought it was an MD state-wide thing, but apparently it's only certain counties.

It's that way in Georgia as well, although the owner is responsible for getting an inspection if they are selling to someone where the inspection is required to register the car in their county.

Here it's a safety inspection is required when the car is registered to a new owner, but it doesn't matter who owned it when inspected as long as it's within 2 months or something. And then the car is never required to be inspected again.

Safety inspection also required on all cars when moving into Maryland, except if you bought the car in-state in the first place. So my ~ 1 year old Buick needed to be inspected but not my ~7 year old FRS.

I think that's how it is in most smog states. Our county here was one of a small number of counties that required testing. Even California has no smog counties.
