Nylon stocking/pantyhose/legging material stretched around a prepainted part. Can even be don with spray bombs! Lightly mist your texture color through the nylon to get your pattern. Go crazy on preparing the parts and wrapping the nylon around them into all the intricate shapes. You can then use clear it. Adding some smoke/clear black will further add depth and help with the scale illusion of the parts. I've also seen people use cheese cloth, drywall tape, and mesh sandpapers for similar effects

I forget which channel I watch that sometimes does this.

Here is some of my youngest son's work. He likes these little guys. He has dozens of them. He did not assemble the Hydra, only paint. It belongs to the model shop owner. All the others are assembled and painted by him. The Hydra is 4 and 3/4 inches tall. The guy is 2 inches tall to the top of his staff thingy.

Like I said, my son has quite a few of these guys. Here is the model station in the upstairs landing.

Scored the display cabinet for $20 at the user store.

That is some nice stuff. Miniature figure painting is a whole different skill level unto itself.

He will appreciate the comment. He really wanted me to say he didn't assemble the Hydra because he says if he had done it, you wouldn't see any of the part lines. Owner didn't want him to do any body work.

He is getting a lot of interest for work. He's trying to figure out what to charge.

enough people keep asking him to do work, but not so much that they all walk away!

Have done about 20 commissions over the years. The average I made was around $2 an hour. There is no way to turn a profit and do things right I am afraid.
