I really think it's just one particular person intent on intentionally misconstruing what anyone says in the sake of an argument.
Me too.

Then my wife decided to go back mid December to put the deposit down as a surprise for our anniversary. And a month later the dealership called and said Subaru had cancelled the order, because they had oversold the year's production run.

Then I heard orders were open again, I went last week to put a deposit down again, and just got a call yesterday that the order had gone through. (For some reason this dealership puts in their orders on around the 10th of the month, not immediately). They say 8-10 weeks for delivery, but that's just based on they usual delivery times. I'd love to get it by the end of August, but I have a feeling I'll be waiting until late October, which is when the 2022s began delivery.

I'm getting a Limited Ignition Red with Manual. Just the dome light upgrade (yes I could have done it myself) and Homelink/auto dim mirror as extras, and MSRP.
I think you're the only person who has been quoted such a quick delivery date. I ordered 2.5 weeks ago and was told Aug-Sept, most have have been told Sept or later. I would be shocked if it's actually here in August.

'22s didn't get here until October, but ordering didn't open until late August/early September IIRC. So let's just hope that bodes well for us!

I don't believe the 8-10 weeks at all. I remember the '22 orders opening around mid July. which would be a little over 3 months between order and delivery. If the same timing holds true this time, it would mean late August delivery.

But I'm just going to assume deliveries start in late October again like last year. That way I can be pleasantly surprised if it comes earlier, and not disappointed when it doesn't.

Don't feel bad, I ordered January 6th, and still have ZERO information on it's VON# or arrival!
BUT, my brother ordered one on the same day, and out of nowhere, he got a call a few weeks ago telling him that his car was in! Also with zero communication to that point. Very strange...

Yeah, this scenario seems common.

My sales kid said Nov. delivery.

Mine came in a share the love email. I missed it the first time then went back and saw it. The email was asking me to donate to charity. Check any email they sent or send.

Also check your spam. My VON email from Subaru was automatically routed to my gmail spam folder.

Factory orders make this a completely different conversation.

The only reason I'd have to back out of my deal is if
A) my life circumstances change completely
B) The dealer tacks on a "market adjustment" when the car shows up

If its scenario B, I better get my full deposit back. I don't care what the contract says, if the dealer does that it makes them super shitty.

EDIT:
Here's a quick summary of part of the Bronco issue

IMO dealers hold the cards here. People don't buy cars often and the process/contracts can be intentionally confusing.

Some people don't

Between my ex-wife and I, the '23 BRZ will be my 7th new car in 11 years. Not to mention all the other cars I've purchased used from dealers, lots, or individuals.

There is really nothing confusing about it. Most people just let their emotions rule because "ZOMG I'M GETTING A NEW CAR" and willingly let the dealer bend them over.

This will be my first in 10 years and first new car ever purchased.

But yeah, this is why the US needs to get rid of those stupid dealership laws. I'd much rather buy my car online right from Subaru

Congrats!

I've definitely lost some and made some money over the years with all the car swapping. But life is too short to not enjoy as many of them as you can.

I feel and share your pain. Wife and I have had 10 cars since 2016, just the way it is. And correct that people don't really get down to the details of the process of buying a car.
