Jinx!

Seriously though it feels great once it finally clicks and they don't do it anymore.

The only accident Haru has had in the past 6-7 months was when we went to a neighbor's apartment with other dogs and he marked one of their toys, lol.

She's had more accidents with my parents than with me. I just attribute that to me knowing how to read her mannerisms better. I'm pretty happy with the progress at 5 months though, just gotta stick with it and she will be there before I know it. A big milestone a couple of weeks ago is that she can now sleep through the night without a potty break, so I'm enjoying no longer getting up at 3am to take her out

The biggest thing we're working on right now is she has started to bark a lot at people and other dogs while out on walks. I can tell she's just really excited but doesn't know how to express it appropriately. So we are doing a lot of sit and "watch" to get her to focus on me while there are distractions around. Luckily super cheap dried beef liver is her absolute favorite, and is pretty easy to engage her nose and attention with.

I definitely lucked out and she has loved being in the car since day one. Usually falls asleep by the time we get to the end of the block. I have her in a Kurgo booster, clipped into her harness. It's mounted high on the front seat so she can see all around.

Spot the wiener wondering where dad went lol

That wasn’t an accident
That was very deliberate

That's a good idea. Haru used to be a lot more apprehensive of small children, so I've made one of our walking routes have a stop partway through at a small neighborhood park. We usually just hang out at a bench and watch kids playing at the playground for a half hour or whatever. He's also met a few neighborhood kids and that's helped.

My last good idea for the car didn't work so I'm stuck right now on that with Haru.

Took dumb and dumber to the vet yesterday for shots. I was off on guess their weight. Ochi lost 6lbs, now at 94, and Princess gained 4 and is at 69. Vet wants Ochi at about 88.

Gave Haru a bath on the weekend. Got more of the last tufts of shedding fuzz to loosen up on his neck/head, which made for some funny pics:

I had one as a kid. Iguana keeping practices weren’t what they are today and she didn’t live as long and awesome life as she should have. Was a fun friend though.

Spike's Haru story reminds me of one of our goldens. We adopted two golden rescues, Amber and Bella, from Taiwan right around New Year's 2010. We only had them a couple weeks and we decided to take everyone to the dog show at the convention center. The car ride was fine, they actually loved the car. The event was on the lower level of the convention center and we had to go down a grand staircase to enter. It wasn't a problem until we had to leave. We remembered that Bella had an issue with going up steps. She would only go up if she had a clear shot to the top. So here we are after about 20 minutes of trying, a member of staff asked if they could help. We explained the situation and they cleared the entire stairs so she could get to the top. We were a bit embarrassed but they assured us that was one of the easiest accommodations they had to make all day.

Spike, you'll figure out something that works. I think you mentioned anxiety just being in the car even before it moves. Put some of Haru's favorite things in the car - a trail of treats leading to a toy or blanket. You can also safely give dogs Benadryl 1mg per pound.
