Engine ticking shortly after new engine

I recently bought a 2013 brz and almost immediately spun a bearing. After taking it into the dealer and getting a new shortblock, I am hearing a ticking sound at certain rpms that sounds somewhat similar to a valve or rod issue. Any ideas as to what this may be?

Locate the sound with a stethoscope, careful of rotating parts with anything dangling! A rod issue is a very pronounced knock. Most likely you are hearing the HPFP on the driver side head. It is driven off the intake cam and can be noisy. You may just be extra sensitive to noise being that you had a spun bearing already.

Welcome to the group, there, boulderbrz -

DANG, you are hard on engines! (sorry, bad joke - ).

I'd suggest you give the new block a few miles to settle in, to see if the sound will go away (or you will get used to it).

The direct injectors make a ticking noise while driving. Sounds sketchy if you don't know the sound.

@boulderbrz could just be the injectors, a clicking that can be annoying.

Another tapping or ticking can be from the clutch throw-out bearing. Should have been upgraded to the new subaru part #, upgraded throw out bearing, which is more reliable than the factory bearing that came with early models.
