Went to get something out of my trunk yesterday (which had been working fine after repairs) and it wouldn't open with the key fob or the inside release. First thought was, oh something hit the valet lock, so went to use my key. It wouldn't open the lock either.

Next thought, great, they didn't rekey the new lock.

"Broke into" the trunk through the back seat, and the valet lock wasn't engaged.

Took it back to the body shop and they managed to get it open, using the emergency trunk release, which broke in the process. Apparently a stray piece of loose electrical wire from somewhere in the car got jammed in the lock and wouldn't let it release.

The shop has ordered a replacement for the ETR but at least in the mean time the trunk works again.

Of course that begs the question, do you really need an ETR in a car where the backseat folds down from inside the trunk? I suppose if you really were kidnapped you wouldn't want to go out the cabin....

My lotus has an ETR. You couldn't fit a human over a year old in the trunk unless you sliced them very thin. Laws are laws, no exceptions.

200,000 Miles

Hit the big 200K on the commute home today, in just short of 10 years (purchase anniversary date is in 6 days (5/11/2012). If you discount the almost 6 months it was off the road for two separate accidents, as documented above, I would have made it in 9.5 years easy.

Also, since I drive my Suburban another 12,000 miles or so a year, it cut quite a bit off the pace.

I would have celebrated by giving the 86 a bath but it's raining here. A photo of the speedometer, and an update on the "milestones" I've been tracking:
