trailer wiring harness
Anyone tried adding a trailer wiring harness yet? I'm looking to tow a small tire trailer for HDPE's, and playing around in that back I couldn't figure out the correct way to get access to the connector for the taillights. I could pull the three accessible screws on the taillight assemblies, but I couldn't get it to come out without pulling harder than I was willing to risk without some form of instruction guidance. Didn't seem like I could access the wiring from the trunk at all either.

Curt offers a plug and play harness kit for the 2013-2020 vehicles. you need to run a power cable to the battery or find power somewhere in the rear of the vehicle. If you have an OEM amp, that is one place you could probably steal power.

I got the right taillight off last night without damage. Thinking I could identify which of the 2022 Impreza kits might work. One is the same as used on first gen BRZs and the other is different depending on sedan/hatchback. Both are 4-pin connectors. Neither works; the connector is 6 place connector with 5 pins populated. I took out the three hex/phillips screws that are visible along the top of the taillight. Not inside the car. It looks like two pieces, taillight and a small cover but they came off together. Pull straight back. There is a plastic pin towards the front that the taillight assy slides into. 10mm on the hex or be sure to use #3 phillips as they were pretty tight.

I contacted etrailer to see if they could identify the connector or a kit that might work. No plug and play kits but they have a universal that doesn't cut into any wiring. Of course it is about the most expensive kit out there.

etrailer can sometimes be a little expensive-- they're almost the 'snap-on' of trailer equipment. so you can sometimes locate the same thing for less without the name brand stickers.
but that said, $200 for a non-destructive, fully reversible kit, that could be used on any/all other vehicles for the rest of your life, really doesn't sound like a bad deal at all.
