filled out hundreds of applications at everything from quick-lube places, to grocery stores, to pizza delivery. if it was within 10 miles of home, i'd filled out an application there. every one of them, "you don't have any experience".. yeah, because all of these low-pay, entry-level jobs have a great history of being long term career paths... did that for 6 months, couldn't even get a single interview.

finally gave up, bought(parental-finance) some well-used lawn mowers that burned more oil than gas from an equipment rental place with my brother, put an ad in the local paper, and set up a weekly mowing schedule...

2 years later, i suddenly had 'work experience'...

the whole employment process is such a crock.
Welp, at least your lawn mower had an engine on it -

adventures with a purpose has been really stirring things up lately. that article says 19 solved cases so far, all with a similar premise.

i guess the moral of the story is that youtube views/ad revenue can be used for good.

technical term vs. laymans, but justified for the state..

no matter, terrifying. that's what it is.

it's a comatose/alzheimer's/weed-high/1-year-old state where they're conscious, don't know where they are, breathing, but start moving slow, making irrational choices, telling everyone they're fine, but doing literally nothing all at the same time, and need to be coaxed everywhere like you would a little child:
"eat this candy bar, you need to get your sugar up
[but my wife says i shouldn't have candy, i feel fine]
NO, DAD, YOU NEED TO EAT THE CANDY BAR
[ok], (munches on it like a kid that's already full)

and repeat that conversation for another 5 times for the longest 10 minutes ever, until he comes to and wonders how he got to the chair he's sitting on...

my dad's a type 2. he's gone into diabetic shock once, and come really close a few other times. since the one episode he changed from the finger-prick mealtime monitoring to a pod system that adheres to his body. the monitor part links to his phone and updates what his current blood sugar level is every 5 minutes. it also links to my mom's phone so she knows if he's starting to drop too significantly.

the time my dad let it drop too low, he was on a lift, 45' up in the air. fire department ended up responding. the paramedics called it diabetic shock as well.

We had a similar situation with a family member last year. He was driving and failed to negotiate a turn at a T intersection. He was lucky that he survived.

In Jimmy's case, it's interesting where he was discovered. I am pretty sure the marina he was found was at the end of the first street he turned on to and he was a good 3 miles from the babysitter's. At the end of that street it leads straight into the water with no barriers. If you care to see where he likely went in it is here: 39.8705482,-75.3140895

I have watched their videos for 3 or 4 years goin back to when they were still more focused on just cleaning up lakes and rivers. I stumbled upon them while in one of my "will it start" rabbit holes.
Jared (the leader) can be a total pompous douche at times but they do help a pile of people now.
Looked up their Youtube income and it ranges around $45K to $75K a year which really wouldn't go far with expenses for how much they travel. They have really improved their equipment over the years though.

Well in fairness to them the couple of other guys that do the same work also are pompous douches sometimes so it may be just the nature of the personalities that are drawn to that sort of work.

I grew up six blocks from where Jimmy was found so I have been following this story since day one. I think they deserve to pound their chests a bit because closure. I remember the rumors that flew around town when it happened and now It can all be laid to rest. If you are religious in any way, I'm sure his mom and brother knew before any of us.

This sounds a lot like the episode that forced my dad to give up his keys. The story we pieced together is that church choir practice ran late one evening, which threw off his schedule. He got in his car to drive home that night (and he had a hard time driving at night) to go the approx. 3 miles to his house. He somehow managed to end up on the other side of town. He didn't notice the brake lights and red traffic light in front of him. He rear ended a car stopped at the light at about 30mph. Full airbag deployment. No serious injuries in either car. My dad didn't remember any of it.
