My cubemate didn't like when I said that Cadillac is an overpriced Chevy. He also thinks GMC Yukon is completely different than a Suburban. Bless his soul.

Well he isn't totally wrong either. They are the same but different. Sort of like saying a Civic LX and Type R are the "Same" because they are both Civics.

Well for that price they bloody well better give me the dog as well. $40 for some probably Dollar Store quality bowels that don't even appear to have logos on them seems a bit extreme.

I understand that, my argument with him is that Cadillac and many other car makers are no longer as unique as people think they are across the board, with a few exceptions. Companies always seek for ways to save money, and people still buy into brand loyalty. Having driven so many cars while I was in the car rental business I can comfortably say that "luxury" brands are just the counterpart of their parental company base cars with a little more effort put into it, with maybe different driving philosophies as you pointed out with the Civic and the Type R, still a Civic, but different philosophies and applications.
I will agree that one-off cars like a Blackwing, Acura NSX, Lexus LFA, to mention a few, have their unique concepts, but at least for mass-produced vehicles, they are based their lower cost counterparts with extra options and leather seats.

Subaru missed the opportunity to have a Boxer breed dog in the picture. 5/10

Is the Escalade, Yukon and Tahoe/Suburban all that different from each other?
They used to be complete rebadges but nowadays i dont know how differentiated they are.

I know GMC and Chevy typically just rebadges the SUVs and i dont think that changed. Cadillac has to stay relevant with the big 3 germans so they cant just rebadge it.

Kind of like Land Cruiser and LX. Up until the LX600 and Land Cruiser 300 series, they've just been rebadges of each other, but now those have diverged a little bit more.

The main difference in the three is the tech and the "niceties" gets more upscale as you move from Chevy to GMC to Cadillac, at least with the SUVs. Eventually it rolls downhill, but it starts with Cadillac.

Again, the SUVs aren't quite rebadges, but the basic body is the same. A lot of differences elsewhere.

Cadillac sedans and coupes are built on the same underlying platform as Chevy (right now the Alpha platform) but the vehicles are quite different from anything Chevy offers, particularly in the higher trim levels.

Started snowing again here in El Paso. I think I might need to get a set of all-season tires if I'm stationed here for another year. O_o
