2017 Toy 86 rear speakers
Is there any aftermarket speakers that will directly replace the stock ones in the rear seat area?
Crutchfield shows nothing ?? Any tips appreciated. 22R |

They're the same as the dash speakers. So many 3.5" will work. But the next question is if it's worth the effort. Most will say no.

There isn't anything particularly special about the rear speakers either physically or electrically. I believe they are identical to the dash speakers with the exception of a little additional wiring to function correctly with the front tweeters. (Thanks to MugsBRZ for the images below.) I don't know why there isn't a direct replacement but it wouldn't be difficult to adapt something as there is ample room behind the panel. If you have access to a 3D printer you might consider these 6.5" adapters:

major difference between the front dash speakers and rear speakers is that the dash speakers have a capacitor that drops bass response below (IIRC) 6khz. an oem version of the name-brand product "bass blockers".
there's nothing wrong with installing 6.5's back there, but with just the L-bracket hanging back there, there's neither the vibration resistance support, or even a a concept of enough of an enclosure to get any sort of reasonable response out of them. so the solution to a larger speaker is both a new bracket that better supports the speaker from 3 points instead of just 2, as well as building some sort of back-box/enclosure to better the bass response. but all of that only works if you've already replaced the head unit, as i'm led to believe by others that have tried it that the oem head unit doesn't provide enough wattage or a full frequency range to the rear speakers. mine are still installed. but disabled at the head unit. i don't miss them.

I will add my comment in the form of a question:
When you go to a concert to see your favorite band play, do you sit (or stand) with your back towards the performance? |
