If I go out and find a flat tire today I am holding you personally responsible for making me say that.
For me it's always a nail, and usually a slow leak. For around town I prefer a spare tire, but without one it'll have to be roadside assistance.
The only long trips are to the track, so good excuse to always carry 4 full size spares.

Yeah - good to know about no spare. I will steal my old donut for the new car when I eventually get it.

For the sake of longevity, I do wish we still got analogue gauges. While all the solid state stuff has come a long way, it still represents a significant point of failure years down the road.

Question for the OP: Did you have an armrest installed in your Gen 1 or were you still working with the open cubby? I keep looking at the new armrest area and it looks like you actually lose utility compared to the older cubby with the basic aftermarket flip-up armrest.

These are all fairly small concerns, but I always try and consider "What if I have to live with this for the next 20 years" due to job/life changes, etc.

On my 2020 I did install the sliding armrest. It made a world of difference. You could still use the rear cup holder with it slid to the front. I couldn’t believe that thing cost me $150 for what it was but oh, well…

it's not really ever been an air pressure issue. usually more of an abrupt delamination/tread ejection. one time, something sheered the valve stem, but at 70mph, by the time we pulled over in 30 seconds, the tire was flat at 15 seconds and starting to delaminate.

No spare tire is dumb. And also makes their bragging about minimal weight gain on the 2nd gen (compared to 1st) a bit dishonest.

Ah - I didn't like the sliding armrest either. I have the flip open one.

I rarely have drinks in the car, and even more rarely a passenger so it didn't matter if I had to have it open to hold my coffee from time to time. Meanwhile, I really liked being able to have that closed storage and the pad was almost perfectly level to the armrest on the door.

The new armrest area looks to sort of take the worst of both types. When closed it won't have as much space (and will probably pinch your arm over time), but when open to hold a drink it will still get in the way.

As for the spare tire thing, I probably could get away without it. I honestly can't remember the last time I had a catastrophic failure of a tire - it's always a screw or nail (usually right at the sidewall in a brand new tire) that still holds enough air to allow me to pump it up and get home. That being said, I still want at least a donut.

Hmm thats weird from all reviews I heard that second gen ride is smoother (never actually rode in 1st gen so can't compare)

Analogue guages I agree, I gotten used to digital one but I am a fan of old school gauges.

Otherwise interior I like in the secon gen

Probably a GR86 specific thing. When C&D had both on hand for testing, they noticed the BRZ had noticeably better compliance on the street. I think they actually thought the BRZ suspension was as compliant as the MK8 GTI they were also testing at the time, which surprised me.

Whoa I must be lucky, only had one slow leak in my FR-S in 5 years, never a flat on many of my long trips.
I'd still rather have a spare tire though, than a repair kit.

2022 - No Spare Tire

Since we do not have run flat tires, we should have a spare. I don't want to be stranded somewhere. Do you know if 2020 GR86 spare fits on a 2022 axle? Was the 2020 spare a compact spare? Did it fit in the trunk okay?

The spares are compatible between gen 1 and gen 2. Go to any salvage yard... a lot of these cars get totalled.

BTW, as a public service I am adding this reminder. DO NOT use the space saver spare on the rear of this car. If you have a rear flat, swap a front tire to the rear and put the space saver up front. Your limited slip differential will thank you...
