Love these threads. Only issue I have is with the MT purists, as if there never was and never will be a good AT. And we know that’s just not true.
And Cincy you better be good because otherwise in your next life you will driving my old 93 ford probe 4cylinder auto. Now that tranny was garbage. 😊 |

Besides with the dual system master cylinders how many people actually have total failure of both front and back now anyways?

My sister in law had a full brake failure close to home on a month old Ranger last year, pedal to the floor. Bad brake line holder install... smart enough to use emergency brake to get home, they had the wheel replaced as well, this just 3 months after getting stopped with my brothers BRZ set up for auto crossing for being low & suspicious. My bro is on here somewhere and could explain .. The migration to Electric parking buttons really bothers me, I use the ebrake normally in the summer but in the winter I need something I can moderate to overcome the useless ABS system not wanting to stop at all on snow/ice roads. Rather have the car slow down sideways accumulating snow to help slow down than nothing at all. And the fun to be had drifting corners when the front no longer responds has become instinctive in my winter habits and will go out of my way to perfect. Also used when on a hill to save the clutch a bit.. |

Limping home with no brakes isn't really "smart". That is what tow services are for. I have never had the ABS "not stop" me in any conditions. Yes they are noisy and annoying but they work every single time. I have issues with the electronic brakes since it is awkward to put on and off while putting my boat in and out of the water. Other than than in her SUV it really has no impact on me at all. Overall would not want in a sportscar but anything else is just sort of Meh.

She was only 2 blocks from home and realised the ebrake was enough to get her home, 30km zone, brother could not find any leaking fluid as there was none left, The brake line was touching a front wheel and got severed. It did get towed to the dealer from there. She was kind of shaken from that and took her a few weeks to trust driving that truck again. ABS: it does a really great job in the summer in the dry & in the wet. I have never had a car where ABS was even good when there is ice & hard pack snow or even on gravel roads. The ebrake kind of bypasses the ABS for the rear wheels( in the cars I had) and thus permits snow accumulation to help slowdown. All bets are off this will work at speed! It’s a tool to explore. Time to check out some rallying. |

I don’t know, I always thought the modern brake system to be redundant enough for failure as well. Good news is after a year they had no other incident. Checked back on his txt from that time and there still was some braking power left but the pedal was fading slowly to the floor... Last edited by The Red One; 02-15-2022 at 09:26 PM. That's what I learned to drive manual on. Ford 100 pickup with a 3 on the tree. Oh, and the aforementioned Corvair with a 3 on the floor.

There's only one reservoir. If it's allowed to fully drain to the point of sucking air, the pedal goes to the floor. I was stupid enough to do it at a very young age and ever since then, I've always practiced with the handbrake just in case. If it's a choice between limping home carefully or waiting for a tow, I'm driving. Same goes for a failed clutch release. We're getting home. My dad taught me both of those skills. The broken clutch cable was not a drill. He was my hero. We laughed about it all the way home that time. Poor starter motor.

Acceleration wise, the MT is faster than AT due to gearing and torque to the ground... close thread.
