Climate Control and Headunit no power
I was about to attempt to install a backup camera on my 16 BRZ. I unbolted the 4 screws holding in the headunit and before doing anything at all I turned the car on to see if things are going well.
I turn on the car and the headunit and the climate controls don't light up nor function. I have checked what my manual says are the fuses for the climate control both in the engine bay and the driver kick panel and they looked ok. I also have removed the climate control and headunit just to plug and unplug anything that may have come loose, to which fixed nothing. Anything people may suggest? I have a months away appointment at a dealership so i may as well see what people can suggest here. Funny enough when I called a different subaru dealer, they advised me to visit an car audio shop instead. Maybe they would have a better understanding of the electronics? |

i usually go crazy and just check all the fuses. does the dome light still work? could be the accessory fuses related to dome lights, or ecu.

Yeah the dome light still works, I found a thread that mentioned that switching fuses for a new one might work so I'll be giving that a try. Thanks for your input.

It really sounds like you 'lost' power on the accessory circuit. There's 2 power wires going to HVAC, and radio. A constant power that supplies enough to have the device do what it needs to, as well as a switched accessory power from the key that's a low power circuit that controls the on/off state.
The next step I would take would be to test for voltage behind the radio to confirm if it's getting the turn-on signal. In my mitsu eclipse, there was a yellow block with 2 fuses that controlled all the vehicle accessories. During shipping, they yanked the block and it killed all the ancillaries. Many a time I blew that fuse and ended up in the same position you are. But because the fuses were in a different block, they went unchecked a lot of times. The 86 doesn't have that same yellow block setup, but the fundamentals are still there that there's really 2 circuits powering the radio and HVAC.
