I truly don't see the appeal.
I guess it depends on your needs and your mission. I agree that it's a bit much, particularly if it's your single person daily commuter.

But if you happen to be a family of 5 that does all their vacationing via road trip and for some reason has to carry half your house with you, the "base" version of the vehicle (a Tahoe) is a great fit.

Would I buy the Escalade V even if I was willing to drop what will likely be $125K or more on it, no probably not. That doesn't mean I'm not happy to see GM continue to create the "the last hooray" for the big V8.

To me, this is no more obscene than someone stuffing a V8 in the 86. Is great to see someone being able to do it, but it makes no sense.

Yesterday I learned a good friend of mine died of pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed on December 30th, and died January 15th. When I saw him in September he had lost weight, and looked the best he ever had in the 35 years I've known him. So bummed. RIP John.

If I ever was to see an SUV actually filled with people, I would be truly impressed. For being the go-to rationalization for their existence, it's the rarest of circumstances. V8 swaps into a lightweight chassis? Well, yeah, but there aren't half a million thee-ton behemoths being daily driven empty. I'm more offended by those who ditch their cats.

I have a chip on my shoulder and accept all rebuttal. Obviously people love them.

I guess I'm the exception that proves the rule because our Suburban is used to travel mostly with between 5 to 7 people in it, or I'm using it as a weekend truck to haul stuff. It's very rare I use it otherwise. well maybe only 25% of the time because I try to drive it at least once a week.

That said, yes, I know a dozen people that drive one as a DD and most of the time it's only one or two up. Of those, it's typically either their family vehicle, or the second car (husband or wife drive the more practical DD).

In the end though, I can't dispute what you are saying other than to say it's hard for a family to have a car for every scenario so you have to go for the one that best fits all of them.

My thoughts and prayers to you and the friend's family.

Pancreatic Cancer is a bitch. I have lost two very close friends to it in the last 30 years, one very quickly, like yours, and one that had the slower growth version they thought they could cure, and he went into remission, but it came back with a vengeance.

Thoughtful, responsible use is definitely the exception. I'd be honored to ride along in your Caddy.

I lost a dear friend to the slow version a couple years ago. Mrs. U. and I were his and his wife's closest companions down to the last evening. The call came as soon as we got home. Remember the drive back like it was yesterday. That's just how it is with traumatic loss.

Our friends live on in our hearts. RIP
