I think the real question is how does it feel when the first tire lets loose? Since the Z32 that’s been the Achilles heel of the Z as a sports car.

The Z cars went from sports cars to GT cars someplace around the mid/late 70s.
Anybody thinking they were all of a sudden going to revert back to a sub 3,000 pounds regardless of engine and platform used were very deluded.

When I first saw it's drifting video it was obvious that the car is heavy, nowhere near 1400kg as initially was stated.

Whoever stated 1400kg? LOL! It was never going to be lighter than the 370Z, no-one following the development and knowing it reused an updated Z34 platform thought this. Seems a bit unfair to bash it based on a fantasy weight target that was never achievable with this platform and engine.

The very best informed case scenario was similar weight to 370Z, or more realistically just slightly heavier. As it stands it isn’t great but also not terrible either. A bit heavier than the Supra and 370Z, but not outrageously so, and still much lighter than a Mustang.

For its main mission, being a powerful Grand Tourer (GT), which is what all Zs have been since the 80s, it is fine. People still rave and wax lyrical about the 1990s Z32 300ZX TT with 300HP but they forget it weighed 1552kg (3422lb) in USDM spec. Compare that to this new 400HP Z in 2022 with all the modern safety kit weighing it down at 1581kg (3485lbs) and it seems reasonable and in line with Z heritage.

Need new Silvia!

Just buy a new GR86/BRZ then! They are basically the modern equivalent of the Silvia. The Z was always the heavier, more powerful GT car to the lighter, less powerful Silvia. I don’t know why people expected the Z to transform into a lightweight sports car when nothing indicated that would happen.
