I've claimed in the past that AGM batteries weren't ideal for a 2017+ since they spike the charging voltage high intermittently and AGM has a lower charging voltage than flooded. Though in the the years since, the amount of cars using AGM batteries and start/stop systems has increased a lot and those cars constantly alternating between high charge and discharge rates and their almost universal use of AGM hint at me that I was probably making too much of it. So I went with a beefy Napa-branded East-Penn 9A35/85 with 600CCA/100RC/50Ah. |

Me and my pop both got those a couple years ago and that's all they lasted. I'm assuming it was a bad batch in 2019. Mine basically puked acid everywhere, my dad's just wouldn't hold a charge anymore.
edit: for what it's worth, he got a refund from costco recently. they don't swap the battery they just give you a refund which kinda sucks, because now of course the battery is more expensive. I ended up going with an AGM Odyssey battery. Completely overkill but hopefully won't have to deal with battery acid everywhere again. I just gave mine to Oreillys since i hate going to costco and dealing with crowds of idiots in parking lots.

I had an "Everstart" battery in my FRS whan I first got the car. It also puked acid on the firewall. Went with a red top Optima.

I prefer a battery size 26R (positive terminal right). They weigh less than a group 35 battery.

The OEM battery is one of the cheapest options, down to ~80 USD at some dealers.

3 years 50k in the NY and Boston region. No issue! Most probably will last another 1-3 years and the OEM will be my choice ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
