Yeah it is, but cost is my current priority. At this point I am just tying to keep us from losing money. Increases this year are averaging over 30% already. I have many critical parts that have doubled. We aren’t going to make a profit at this rate, but if we can get product out to customers it will ensure future sales and parts sales. The market won’t bare the increases I would need to make to generate any type of margin so any changes I can make to reduce cost but not quality or functionality need to be looked at.

Weight isn’t too much of a concern of mine until battery technology improves. One of my charger guys I work with said the lithium market is the Wild West.

i don't really see that as an issue until for at least the next 5 years, likely longer. way too much volatility in the ev market overall.

we're just starting to see people retrofitting houses for car chargers, and ev's have been well on the market for 10 years already (looked it up, tesla's first car was 2008). been working at brand new gas stations a few times-- $40mill-60million new-builds, and despite all the survey's and stuff, none of them are planning for ev chargers. 1 10-pump site said they have the capability to have 2 chargers installed in the future, but said it's unlikely right now.

gasoline is just so convenient and overall safe. it's going to take a lot to overthrow that. ev's, even at-home charging, require so many extra costs and pre-planning that no one is used to right now. and tesla pulling an 'apple' with their own non-sae charging standard while leading the way in ev is honestly really screwing things up. last house i just did a charger plug for, they have an audi ev, it has the charging plug in an entirely different spot than any other ev, almost installed the plug in the 'wrong' spot, which means welding extension cords and lack of interest in use for future homeowners...

i really have a hard time believing that the 2030 50% production vehicle mandate is really going to have a significant effect on the consumer-side of the market just yet. i've got no doubt the mfg's will make 50% of their lineup available as ev, but doubt the take-rate is going to be that significant without massive amounts of cash on the hood. really think we're going to see the mandate get shifted to 2040 by 2028.

The only place it makes sense right now for gas stations (or other stores) to install EVs is along major travel routes (Interstates and major 4-lane state roads), or here in the South US major routes like to beach areas such as Mrytle Beach, Panama City, and Gulf Shores where you are not on a major route but they have major traffic and good distances to drive.

Within 5 miles of my house there are 5 Racetrac, 2 QT and probably 2 dozen independent gas stations. They get commuter traffic but not long-distance travel traffic. None of them have a business case to add EV plugs since 95% of their traffic is someone just leaving or going to their home.

At least in the South, it seems the logical candidates to start installing them would be truck stops and Waffle Houses at off-ramps.

Excluding EV’s since they are a whole other deal then the market I deal with. There is a lot going on as far as retrofitting homes and equipment to lithium tech since overall it will take way more duty cycles. But to do so you basically have to build your equipment around the battery. There is no standardization on voltage/capacity/sizing in place right now for lithium batteries. You can’t just say I need a Group XX battery and find 3 that have about the same spec and size. A lot of these companies are also popping in and going out of business in the span of a few years. So if you built around their battery and they disappear, you are pretty screwed. This almost happened to us but luckily they designed the battery to fit in the space of 2 group 34 AGM’s so it wasn’t that big of a deal. I know of another manufacturer in my industry that got bit hard by that. Their solution was to build a custom pack out of a bunch of 18650 cells. No thanks lol
