Gotcha, but how are you finding the VIN in the first place? Is there some sort of dealer inventory type of site with all the VINs listed?

Assuming they get it from their salesman / dealer once it’s confirmed that they’re getting that vehicle and it’s for that person.

Purely hunting and pecking. Literally using Google maps, clicking on Toyota dealerships, checking each website for inventory and then copying the VIN for any cars shown.

And I don't mean to say that that web API tool is going to be 100% accurate. Naturally it's only as accurate as whoever is updating the information. But it certainly quicker and less hassle than calling up the dealer to find out if it's spoken for.

I figured that was the method you were using, and tried my hand at it for a while. Finally found a trueno manual near me but it was already spoken for.

Also, interestingly at least in my area the ~25 or so dealers I looked into were all either Neptune or Trueno Blue.

Just replace that placeholder with the VIN in question. All kinds of stuff in there, like whether it's available or on hold by the dealer. Even the hex # of the color. Cool stuff.

Kudos to whoever shared it on the other site.

If you don't like reading JSON code with the link above, try using this link which displays the vehicle details as a web page. It does not show vehicle status info so the first link is good for that information.

Replace the YOURVIN text with the VIN of the car you are interested in.

I was notified by an out of state Toyota dealership (I'm located in SoCal but, willing to purchase out of state) to the availability of a GR86 M/T shown in Neptune. Invoice showed MSRP at $27,700 with a "Delivery processing/handling" fee another $1,070.

However, I was taken back by the dealership's additional $5,000 "Market-Adjustment" fee for a total of $34,522.

Is this supply and demand?

yeah theres some craziness going on.
Im glad i got my first gen when i did. Pandemic related semiconductor shortages among other things wasnt something i expected and it is inflating prices like crazy.
But it varies from dealer to dealer and area i think.

I looked online and one of my local dealers has a neptune AT premium on the way for 38k CAD (MSRP from toyota.ca is 36k CAD)
I checked another and they have a black AT coming priced at 45.5k + 5.5k options = 51k......

Then another dealer has had some 2020 first gens forever, one white GT MT with options is still going for about 48k, but the other is a GT AT and it used to be 38k but now they bumped it up to 42k......
With the price over inflation happening lately they might actually be able to sell those ones lol.

Yes sadly the market forces make this a seller's market and dealers and others are asking in some cases 40% ADM over MSRP...3% over is a "gift"....in 6 months to a year, you'll feel like you were robbed...guys paying 40% over will feel like they woke up in a prison cell next to bubba the love doctor.
So celebrate being robbed! Yaay!

Rookie numbers...the first BRZ I tried to buy was $50k otd after the markup and dealer fee's Some markets can demand that in these weird times.

Got my car today. Few notes on API status... status changed from F to G once it arrived at dealership. the ETA dates donot get removed when this happens. While the status was at F, the eta date range did shrink as it got closer to delivery. It when from 2 weeks to 1 week to 3 days.

Also, my dealer required me to finance with them or I had to pay 2k extra, lame.
