Someone at work tested positive for COVID at work. And of course they were a civilian using their 'rights' as an excuse not to get the vaccine. Actually she's preggers so I guess that's a legit excuse, Iono anymore.

Bad decision ESPECIALLY if she was pregnant.

Any other vaccinations any time before in life happened without controversy. Now, the one that actually will prevent mother and baby from severe infection that can cause life threatening or tissue damaging effects and time to decline.

I think we all know horror stories of pregnant women and Covid.

Mayhaps. Still, there are a few other civis where I work who refuse to get it but don't have a solid excuse other than, they simply don't want to. But the DoD won't accept that. Luckily I have enough PTO if I did get sick, so I'm not worried.

We got the order to wear masks again indoors.
Big problem at my job is it's word of mouth.
No mass email or anything like that.
So I had to go looking for the proof cause some people won't do it until they see the actual document.

I had to go through 5 separate web pages to find the order buried in a 22 page word doc.
A single sentence in 22 pages.
Thank you to whoever invented "find".

I remember that bright moment in June where the trajectory of it all glimmered. We relaxed indoor masks because the high vaccination rate, low transmission/acquisition. I went to my first in person meeting at the end of that week, and no one else was wearing masks. Later that day the notice went out it had all been a ruse and everything was still all fucked.

One of my soldiers has to isolate for 10 days in her barracks because one of her family members tested positive. And another guy who works with our civilian has to isolate, too. So much for a fun new year ugh

This Omicron wave is a weird one though. Tons of people getting infected whether vaccinated or not but nobody seems to get super sick. Maybe that's because they've kept it away from the most vulnerable effectively compared to previous waves. Either way we don't know anything for sure except that allowing unbridled infection opens the potential for further mutation. Best to avoid infection if possible. If we're like South Africa, it will start to peter out a month or so after it becomes dominant.

How does a soldier "isolate" in a barracks?

I thought this was well known by most about Omicron. It has a lot of mutations to the spike protein. Someone posted a graphic of it next to Delta quite a few pages back.

They have the fancy ones that are basically like a college dorm room lol. Separate rooms with a common area that sports kitchen and all. Many things have changed from the 1940s, sir.

......and I suppose they have indoor showers? -

Brings to mind the time I had six female soldiers in my unit. We were stuck (long story) in an isolated training area for three days. After the first day, the head female soldier (a spec 6) wasn't going to take my first sergeant's word that we were not going to build a private outdoor shower for them and demanded to speak to the company commander, which was me.

This was the time the Army was trying to integrate male and female soldiers (to a degree). I told the group leader that she and her fellow female soldiers could go behind the water wagon and hold up blankets and take turns "showering". The first sergeant instructed the male soldiers to stay clear of the water wagon during the event.

No, us male soldiers didn't shower - we weren't a bunch of pussies -

THE END

PS - the attached picture goes with the first part.

Here you go. A significant point is Omicron has so many more new mutations that are not derivatives of Delta.

Omicron, red highlights are mutations.

Delta, compare the number of mutations.
