No, there is an included harness. I followed the dealer installation instructions exactly, which were very straight forward. There's a 3 wire plug hiding in the roof console that you fish out. You then connect that to a harness they supply with the mirror, that takes it from a 3 wire to an 10 pin connection to the mirror. You drop that out of the roof trim down to the mirror, connect it, and you're done. Not really anything to mess up.

Per the wiring diagram the three wires are just power, ground, and some sort of signal to the back-up lighting system so the problem seems like it may be in the mirror itself.

Interesting. I read about the signal from the backup system so I tried the HL when in reverse yesterday, but no change.

Yeah, I was assuming that was just to let the mirror know when you're reversing so perhaps it doesn't dim for better visibility? Would really suck if the wiring harness that's pre-run through the car is wrong

I guess worst case scenario we need a new patch harness, the mirror is getting switched power at least. May need to just tap the switched power into one of the other 10 contacts on the mirror side.

Here's a long shot: There are some cars with homelink that the sensors are installed somewhere in the vicinity of the front bumper. Tesla and Audi come to mind. What's the chances they didn't install the sensor and just the mirror?

That's a really good point. Of note, the pin configuration on the mirror actually matches Toyota's mirrors rather than Subaru's. I found this out because I ordered a Dongar wire harness for a dash cam (haven't installed this yet). That harness has a total of 7 pass-thru connections so it seems likely one of those is an additional power connection. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a schematic for the Toyota mirrors yet.

sounds like the standard homelink connector that they've been using for years. the 3rd wire will be the switched ignition circuit to tell the mirror that the car is powered on.

there's a 4th terminal used for reverse connection, of which that mirror shouldn't require. it's only there for the backup camera display models.

homelink has always built all of their antenna's into the mirror body, i see no reason that they'd change it for this variation.

give the dealers a chance to figure it out, but if they throw their hands up, give this guy a shout. he knows his mirrors.

Do you have a link to the instructions? I’d like to take a look under there with my multimeter, but it’s not obvious how to get the dome assembly down without messing the headliner panel up.

Here's a link about disassembling the dome - it's for an Impreza but same process. You pop the center of the dome out (pry from the side closest to the windshield) and take out the two screws that exposes. There are two clips on the dome, on the side away from the windshield that are pretty easy to pop loose, then the whole dome drops down.

Glad I found this thread. At least I'm not the only one experiencing these issues.

I took it back to the dealer a few days ago to take a look at it as they were the ones who installed it. They came to the conclusion that it must be something wrong with the mirror so they're ordering me a new one. Hoping it'll worked once it's replaced but seeing other people experiencing the same thing makes me wonder if it's not a defective mirror..

I don't have a 2nd gen yet, but I can say I've had multiple cars with Homelink mirrors and none of them worked properly.

The one in my '20 worked fine. Currently waiting at the dealer for that and my windshield.
