It’s not just our homegrown idiots who are the problem. It’s also the logistical nightmare of trying to vaccinate the whole world. If we can’t bring ourselves to shut the whole planet down until we can identify and eradicate 90 to 100% of the cases globally this is going to keep happening.

We cannot and will not do that. Add in the Greek Chorus of idiots around the globe and it’s not just an uphill fight, it’s nearly vertical. I’m pretty sure I sound like a broken record, but this will keep happening. We’re dealing with a threat the likes of which we haven’t seen before. It reminds me of criticisms I’ve heard and lodged against the military - too often they run into problems because they are refighting the last war.

Even the folks who have a clue are struggling and then we have a crowd of know-nothing, backbench warming, armchair flopping, barstool riding would-be epidemiologists spewing a reeking cloud of brain farts into the air. It will present interesting case studies for graduate students in 100 years IF we don’t REALLY FUCK THINGS UP BEFORE THEN. I’m not betting on us.

frankly, i'm surprised we as a species made it to 2020 before screwing everything up this significantly.

Oh, I don't think this is the worst we've done. It happens to be easy to identify and track, though.

I’m afraid humans have been a blight on the planet since we made the jump to “Sapiens.” Years ago my wife and watched a detective series starring Mathew McConahey (sic) and Woody Harrelson as hard bitten cops in Southern Louisiana.

MM’s character was a pessimist’s pessimist. His take was, if humans had known how they would turn out, they would/should have walked back into the swamp and drowned themselves.

If I see us teaching the world how to make the mRNA sauce, and we build up enough capacity to get it out to the far corners of the world effectively at once, then maybe, maybe... so, we're pretty much fucked.

Still, I hope no one in any of our circles needs a lung transplant anytime soon. I hear those be going like hot cakes.

Oye dont say that. A friend of mine drove back to ny to sell his house and started feeling lousy. Turned out to be covid.

Ontario recorded it's first two Omicron cases in Ottawa. They had returned from Ghana.

I am optimistic that initial reports that the existing vaccines are effective will prove to be true.

Yeah, my sister-in-law's new roommate got covid from travel. My SIL owns the house, but had to quarantine at her parents for two weeks.
