if you want drifty stuff, which is good for car control and not fasty stuff then clubfr has drift days but i don't know how accommodating it is to learning? i don't know anything about that world really.

Something to consider if you want to learn to drift, is that you should be prepared to break your car in some way. If you can't afford that (or if it's a daily driver) I highly suggest buying a second card to do it in.

I'm in Boston, so my experience may be different, but I've done driver skills schools and autocrosses with the BMW club here, and they're a good group of people. They also run good driver's education (HDPE/track events) as well.

Looks like the Chicago area BMWCCA also does car control clinics, autocrosses, and track events. Definitely consider joining!

You are welcome to join us (www.MVPTrackTime.com) at Autobahn Country Club in Joluet or Road America to get the track time you may want. We run the combined north and south tracks which is 3.56 miles in length.

Skip barber does offer advanced car control clinics which will teach you how to drift. However, car control is an advanced topic. To learn how to drift, you will obviously need to learn basics of high performance driving which Skip Barber also teaches. You can also learn basics at HPDE courses albeit at a much slower pace due to limited seat time and questionable quality of instructors.

Skip barber will teach you the basics , drifting will be up to you. I practiced a lot in abandoned parking lots.

+1 for skip barber i took their laguna seca course.

I second this recommendation. Some good drivers in this club; you should learn a lot.
