People who have seen the new car in person say it looks like a Camry. There is a general tendency of the factory to make it more appealing to the masses with a hope to sell more. I'm sticking to the 1st gen model and in fact on the pre-facelift model (had both pre-facelift and post-facelift).

Erm. Perhaps you are mistaking my comment about the original 86.

The new one has basically 0 design q's from a sedan.

The original 86, when viewed from the rear qtr, has this flatness into and over the rear arches that are very Camry like, its a really boring part of the car.

I've posted about it well before the new models came out.

I have a good feeling that if you have a gen1 and want gen2 power, the engine will swap in with relative ease. We will see.

I think that's more a side effect of him not being articulate enough to actually discuss the styling of the car rather than to compare it to the last car he sat in 5 mins ago.

Nobody will confuse these for a Camry.

Looks are so subjective. Everyone hated my blobeye, but now after 18 years more people like it. Subarus are ugly what can you say, the fact that Toyota was involved makes the twins way better looking. Who could forget the Tribeca that looked like a Tusken raider. That was ugly.

I'd suggest its probably a touch under camry/corolla interior, but thats no different from first gen. Its certainly got its own little details.

But the look of the car itself... nah. But I'm open to have details of it shown, I'm not entirely familiar with the look of the current camry.

I gotta say I wasn't impressed by this guys channel, but each to their own. We all have our favourites right.

I have never seen a Gen 2 in person yet but from looking at pics, i find the new car is not nearly as “original” as Gen 1. The front end of the new car reminds me of a cayman/boxster and the back end reminds of the a Acura CL/gen2 NSX and some even say a Buick sedan. Having said that, i think Gen 1 is far more unique and with more original designs. Which one is better looking, that is subjective.

Myself personally prefer the looks of Gen 1. If anyone wanted to match the performance of a Gen 2, you can always swap it with a K24 (also brings the curb weight down by about 200lbs). Now you will have a better looking (subjective) and a higher performing car than Gen 2. Mind you, though not proven yet, i have a sneaking suspicion that the K24 will be a far more easier engine to extract additional power from, NA or FI. Having said that, i am sure this is not for the mass as I am sure most would just prefer a turn key solution (gen 2).

We don't have the Toyota Camry over here in the UK so I just had a look.

That was not what I was expecting at all. Anybody who feels they resemble should probably book themselves an eye test.

To me the front end is more like a Cayman/Jag F-type , rear end is Lexus/Vauxhall Insignia.

Yep! The front is supposed to look "like" a Camry

And a Corolla

And the rest of the line up

The whole idea is that even the most non car person can take one look and go "Oh Toyota".

The rear however is all Subaru and the sides are pretty much your non denominational sports car behind the Subie wheel vents.

Based on the timing, I think the Corolla styling was changed to look more like the pre-facelift gen 1 86 (back when that happened).
