Too bad they didn't fix the fender gap. Main issue is not the suspension, but the diameter of the wheels which are quite small. Other manufacturers are offering much larger wheels with the expense of a longer gear ratio, but if factory kept the previous 4.3 final drive ratio it wouldn't be noticeable at all. With a larger wheel the suspension would have to be redesigned a bit to keep the vehicle height same, BUT overall it would be better than to have this ugly gap and use again old coilover solutions with the lose of suspension travel.

Frankly I don't find a drop much of a solution because all it does is close the gap at the top. I'd rather have the symmetrical gap than no gap at the top and a wide one at the bottom. If If were going to "fix" it, I would go with larger (more sidewall) tires rather than larger wheels. Since mine is primarily a road car, I would hope it would help soften the ride a bit, plus I HATE low profile tires.

You do realize that by using a larger outer diameter tire to shrink the fender gap you also lose suspension bump travel? While making the ground clearance higher.

How are you losing bump travel with a larger diameter tire? Trying to wrap my head around this

The geometry of a properly designed suspension should make it impossible to hit the fender liner or metal. But that also means that the larger the tire, less suspension travel should be allowed. |

Yeah, more inner clearance would be very much appreciated for many reasons, but given it's a small car with a McPherson strut front, and the rear tires are close to the rear seats, I can imagine there are non-trivial packaging issues.
Even then, 1st gen cars fit 245/40R17 tires much more easily than ND Miatas, for example. |

Anyone drive a mildly boosted (~250-270whp) gen 1 and care to compare to how it feels vs gen 2?
I have a 2017 86 and a turbo kit in my basement waiting to get installed, but really trying to decide if I should just trade in and get the brz.

Trade in and boost the new BRZ with the kit you already have.
