This is a great write up, appreciate the time you took to document it all. I've never used any Dynamat or Fatmat products and was wondering about the longevity of the adhesive. I'm sure the floor panels are not a concern, but what about the roof? In a couple of years will that stuff give way and just be sitting on top of your head liner? Or at the bottom of your door sills? Thanks for any advice you have on this.

I bought 50 sq ft. Kept a few feet for when I actually get bass in the car, I can track down rattles.
It would not be hard for me to use a bunch more, but I don't want to add a ton of weight. The 50ft weighs in at 15 lbs and that's all I want to add. |

There are a bunch of different brands of dampener. Fatmat is on he cheaper side and this is the first time I've used it, but seems to work well. Hope it holds up over time.

How do you determine where you need to place it?
It seems like you've got some knowledge on where you would place it, but I'm not sure how you determined that it needed to go in those certain spots. |

If you want any kind of real midbass from your door speakers, you need to seal them as well as possible. I also like to cover as much of the door skin as possible to cut down on rattles and resonance. Some people will tell you that only 25% of a panel needs to be covered, some will add multiple layers. I just try to cover as much as I can with one layer.
The roof, quarter panels and the rest of the car I just rap my knuckles on. Just go around your car and knock on any panel, it will have a tinny, hollow , clank to it. A well dampened panel will have a solid thud when you knock on it. And here weight comes into play. I could of added a ton more and made it Lexus like, but I settle on Camry like. And this is just dampener, if you get into sound deadener, you can add a ton of weight, but make it like a tomb. Some of the sound deadener weighs a pound per foot. |

Great, I appreciate the information and I look forward to applying some fatmat.
I suppose I could do it when I prep the back window for tint while taking off the 3rd brake light |

Also, I was putting more than double in my car as you did yours, I had a layer covering the entire ceiling and doubled over in a couple of bad spots (had 2 2000 watt subs+1000 watts to my 4 door speakers, the roof literally moved up and down between 1/4 and 1/2 inch when the bass hit hard enough), so that could have been part of the reason it fell down, lots of weight hanging on itself, I would guess the amount you have should be fine.

Just take the top of the light off. No need to pull everything apart just for tint.

I think I have buyer for the IDs. Also have a line on some Arc Audio minis. Still 2 amps, but both are about the size of one of the IDs, and are 1.75" tall they should go under the front seats just fine. They are also fan cooled and not class D.
I also like to buy used whenever possible. I change gear a lot and buying selling used is a lot cheaper. From what I can remember I had 12 amps in my last car and I only had it less than 2 years.lol |
