Technically the handheld part was a receiver and didn't emit anything. So you were really just operating a gun-shaped camera.

But I also didn't know this about the second controller. I don't think we even had the manual.

Same.
Never had the manual.

Also the camera is why the game doesn't aim right on non CRT screens.
They were calibrated for the curve of the screens.

TIL you really can teach an old dog new tricks.

MomHawk (not the dog) has a habit (OK maybe once every two years) of inadvertently locking her keys in her car (Mustang, the old dog). Usually no big deal, we have an extra set, I go unlock the car, problem solved.

Last time, she managed to lock ALL the keys in the car, one set in the trunk in her purse, and one set accidentally dropped on the inside of the car as she was getting out. Had to call roadside assistance to get in.

Well this week was her birthday, so I borrowed her car, went to my local car alarm guy and had a Viper DX4 Bluetooth remote start unit installed in her car. Now she, or me, can unlock her car with a cellphone within range (we didn't opt for the cellular based version since it requires a subscription).

So now she can unlock the doors and trunk remotely, and start the car, with her cellphone. The trunk pop is really handy because there is no trunk release in the car (convertible), you have to use the fob or the key.

The only thing is its a little disturbing to be standing next to her Mustang when it rumbles to life on its own! Shades of a midnight massacre run through a street racing crowd pop into my head.

Yea, but it won't be mine. That's the real present, for me. I've also installed the app on a Fire tablet that never leaves our house.

I suppose the cheaper option would have been to get extra key fobs, but that's not nearly as much fun. The unit does come with one that will unlock the door and start the engine.

If you find all the devices locked in the car then you know she's been trolling you for years.

Or whatever it is the kids call that now.
