Lol, what a drama queen. There is literally ONE color that’s different between the 2. One!

Don't think so, because I have no idea what you're talking about lol. I did get a message today from someone else who said that they don't know anything about their allotment yet, not even if its MT or AT. Guess I'll see whenever it finally arrives.

I emailed a bunch of dealers, and the consensus is that no one has any allocation information, order information, etc, majority aren't even taking deposits while a few are. Of the ones that are, no ADM, but one did, so seems like MSRP is the norm. The feeling I'm getting, the ones not taking deposits are waiting for allocation information, and then will likely at least consider adding ADM.

It will certainly be worth the wait then! I hope it’s all you wished it would be when you finally get it.

How much evidence do you want? The first gens (mostly the later ones though) are indeed selling for ridiculous amounts right now. I was offered $5K over what I paid for mine. There was nothing more to the story.
New car prices and used ones just do not jive right now. The bottom will drop out of the used market soon I would expect and then places will be stuck with cars they paid big money for that they just can't sell.

My 2c - dealerships are fighting the dreaded "empty lot". If the lot looks too empty, people don't come by to buy. They think the dealership is closed. Now a little bit sparse and you can sell the whole "I've had 4 people looking at this car this week, don't take too long to decide if you want to buy it" thing.

So they're buying any vaguely-decent used car they can just to fill up the lot above the danger level of emptiness.

And the people running the show aren't (complete) idiots so they know a thing or two about inventory. If the new cars start coming in fast enough to be a problem, they slash prices on the used cars and get them out the door. But it doesn't have to be slashed to the point they lose their shirt. Just enough to get the inventory turned over.

And ultimately if they lose money on half those used cars, that's money spent keeping the doors open and the public's faith in that dealership being there next year and the year after (which is critical to selling warranties, which is where they make a LOT of their real money on a car sale.)

Losing money on a car isn't the worst thing that can happen at a dealership.

Alot of the market is being driven by the new kids on the block Shift Carvana Vroom etc etc, who operate more like a tech company than a traditional dealer. For them the perception of business operating cash flow is probably more important than actual profit generation. I also think some of it is trying to put each other out of business by hoarding all the cars, what Carmax essentially did to local used lots, Shift Carvana Vroom is trying to do with Carmax and each other.

I just unloaded my Miata for more than I bought it for new 6 months ago, no way was Mazda going to buy it back for that much when they have a brand new one for about the same price. Then again, I was just at a dealer looking at another car with a friend and I saw a used one listed at a higher price than a new one, to which the salesperson just said you'd be surprised.

Also, dealers also make money on warranties, ceramic coatings, service plans, financing, charging you $300-$500 to do the DMV paperwork that any one of us can accomplish for <$100 at a DMV services store, you get the idea. I mean, think about what a restaurant has to do get a consumer to pay $500, and then compare that to what a dealer does to get us to pay the damn doc fees, especially if you subtract all the hand waving dealers do. /rant

100% agree.
I did not intend to imply that those dealerships that may end up with overpriced used cars did not fully know that when they bought them. Contrary to most car forum belief dealerships are businesses and most have been around a long time so they know what they are doing and why they are doing it. They have business plans just like any other business.
I just mentioned that they would lose money to clarify that the current prices being paid will not last forever. The very fact that they are still paying those prices is a pretty good indicator that things will stay this way for a while though.

This is where they MOST of their money.
My wife has made a very good living selling these items at an RV dealership for 20 years now.

You would be amazed at the number of people that would rather pay somebody to deal with things like the DMV than do it themselves.
A restaurant has to actually do very little to earn the price of a meal. Paying $45 for them to cook and serve what would be a $5 home cooked meal is no different than paying somebody to do the paperwork for you.

At $10 for Toyota dealers, the MoT charge isn't terrible. Getting off work early to wait an hour in line for me is more of a hassle but I get your point.
