That is literally the best picture I got of it. White/maybe silver sedan with bright ass headlamps. 90% sure it was a guest of my neighbors house to the right. They were all skiddish when I asked them if they recognized the car or saw anything. Police no help and it isn't worth going trough my insurance given it is all aftermarket parts that no longer make parts for the car.

Peeking through the blinds every hour seeing if anyone parks there ever since.

Spike strips in front of your driveway every night.

........but then someone would step on it and you would get sued

In the article it talks about struggle of making 86/BRZ, language barrier issue with making a Supra to all the way to now. Latest one written that lockdown from rona happened & with several… issues, he decided to officially retire. No big farewell or anything. He quietly retired w very limited staff/ppl knowing.

Now, he bought a big land in middle of nowhere (in Japan) barely having internet, living w his wife. He’s tempting to buy bulldozer to work on his land, but his wife said “No!” I told him, even a great Chief Engineer who made 2 sports cars, cannot win against his own wife. lol

All in all, raise a glass, cheer & thank you to Tada-san for all the work & enjoy your retirement.
I saw yesterday a late pic of him and he has white hair already. I have a feeling that he wanted to offer a bit more in car industry, but things somehow didn't go as expected. I hope he is fine nowadays and to enjoy his retirement.

Well he is 65 and that is a pretty standard retirement age so there may be no real back story other than he just wanted to stop working.
The Toyota marketing team and internet depict him as some sort of engineering god but in reality he is just one of thousands of engineers working for Toyota and if not for the 86 nobody would ever of heard about him nor cared when he retired.

You’re correct. He would be no one, if he didn’t make 86 & Supra… but that can be said the same w a lot of engineers or designers in general. Fans would treat him like a God or something, but all he wanted from them is to become a friend.

Retirement age is 60 in Japan, but he wanted to work til 65. At 60, Toyota requested, he agreed & “retired” from Toyota to benefit younger engineers, so they can get promoted. BUT Toyota requested him to work, so he became a contractor & “contract” w Toyota. Suddenly Toyota is going away with having Chief Engineers. Believing that car should be build & updated without CE. So literally he doesn’t have much work for him as CE. They also going away of having multiple spoke person, instead they have 1 main spoke person each (1 for Toyota, 1 for GR & 1 for housing/architect) & cutting supervisors. So in the end, he retired earlier (well there’s more reasons). What Toyota is doing is making more efficient line for the staffs to communicate & less lines of supervisors to reduce the time wasting.

All in all, he’s enjoying retirement life, so that’s all it matters
