Got me wondering why a solid bar is more linear than a hollow one. Cos by maths, there shouldn't be a difference within the limits of the strength of the materials.

Unless, like mentioned in this whiteline paper, it's hard to manufacture hollow bars consistently (esp the bends) and thus contribute to the "non-linearness"? More like toyota taking the easy (cheap) way out...

So i guess according to Car and Driver, the GR86's 18mm solid bar is stiffer than the BRZ 18.3mm hollow bar. Sounds obvious now that I say it out, but i didnt do the maths hahaha. so the GR86 has softer front springs and stiffer front bar (and of cause stiffer rear springs and bar) vs the BRZ.

I often wonder how much auto journos are stretching when claiming these ‘really noticeable’ differences in driving dynamics between the twins. I’m reminded of the famous test where wine ‘experts’ were asked to taste and describe two wines in typical wine tasting fashion, a red and a white. They duly noted the differences and described each wine in the normal red wine and white wine terms, coming up with very different descriptions. Only problem was that it was the exact same white wine, the ‘red’ one just had flavourless food colouring added!

A true ‘blind’ test would surely be needed where you either put the journo blinfolded into the passenger seat, or else remove the bumpers, badges and any identifying marks from the test cars and have them describe their honest driving impressions. I’m willing to wager many journos are just like the wine tasters, making subjective statements based on preconceptions and feeling what they expect to feel.

Based on the YouTube coverage of the gen 2 twins, many of the journalists clearly don't even know how to drive a car properly.
One even called the car "drifting" when he had power-on understeer.

Luckily for these cars, all you’d have to do is put tape over the steering wheel 😂

So will the ED review be TV only or also on YouTube?

I believe they post the TV episodes on YouTube after a delay.

Update: Season 10 of Everyday Driver starts on January 1 on the Motor Trend channel. The GR86/Miata episode might be the premiere based on the promo picture for the season.

I watched the Japanese press day videos. They do seem to handle differently. I want the more linear car and that's what the BRZ looks to be in stock form from what I've seen and why I chose the BRZ. Better oversteer characteristics and didn't look to be fighting for rear traction as much.

The Toyota GR86 addresses most of the issues of the first generation, but can it compete with the updated Mazda MX-5?

Definitely. Between the BRZ and the GR86, they can be modified to taste so no wrong answer. GR86 looks to be more loose out of the box and that's a ton of fun too it not as quick around a track. Anyways, I'd like to know what tires the gen 1 was running. Maybe I missed it but didn't see anything in the vid or comments.
