That accident was in 2018.

It is possible marital status affected your rate; however, still quote new policies with different providers. It is wise to do this every few years, but also make sure to compare what is covered. That way you don't save $200 per renewal just to have basically no coverage. Often it does not make sense to stay with one auto insurance provider for a long period of time.

I had Progressive from the time I got my license until my late 20s. They raised my renewal by about 15% with no reason. When I called to ask why, they said they were doing that for everyone. I ended up calling AAA to get comparison quotes from different providers using my driving history, including Progressive, just to see what they were. Progressive was still the highest quote I got back, but it was less than half what they were currently charging me. I ended up going with a local company with good rep for identical coverage at about 35% of what I was paying. I don't think this is typical, but it did help me to learn my lesson.

I totally get your frustration with the insurance hike. Mine jumped about 20% this year too, and I'm also in the Bay Area. I'm 30, no claims either, but with State Farm.

I was venting about this to a buddy, and he suggested checking out https://www.insurancecloud.co.uk/ to compare rates. I was skeptical at first, but I gave it a shot and found a better deal. It didn't solve everything, but it definitely helped lower the pain a bit.

It seems like these increases are becoming more common, especially with all the economic changes. I'd say shop around a bit – you might find something better out there.

Ours went up because our provincial government is a bunch of morons (the majority of the provincial population happens to be full of complete idiots too)

They try to "help the citizens" but everything they do has a negative or opposite effect than what they claim they are dong.
