Technically the VIN is built onto the car at the assembly line. For Gunma built cars, you'll see a VIN get attached to an order while the car is on the boat making its way over.

Lots of great info and insights on this forum!
Currently driving a modified 90 Miata, and have always been intrigued with the BRZ’s.

Got one ordered last week from local Subaru dealer.
500.00 under MSRP
Estimated “late January” delivery

Premium trim, no options.
Magnetite Grey Metallic
6M/T (of course)

Can’t wait!

Yesss, though I have never thought about wanting a simple color, I am quite interested in this Magnetite Grey. Welcome!

Thanks, that's super interesting. I know with other brands the dealer/customer may get the VIN right before the car goes into production.

This is probably good news. While we're all biting our nails waiting on VINs, it's refreshing to know that when we do eventually get them, the cars will be built and on their way over.

Just curious, are you guys paying sticker price? Any discounts the dealers are offering? Super tempted to get back into a BRZ after not owning one for the past 4ish years.

none of my subaru dealers would talk below msrp; however, some claim $500 below sticker.

BTW, dont you guys find it odd that many of us have october delivery, yet nobody got a VIN yet?

I ordered mine from the Temecula dealership and was told no markups. I ordered the limited manual in ignition red with footwell illumination, LED dome, and door edge guards in August with and ETA by the last week of October. I originally ordered the sti knob but when the pics came out I cancelled that part.

According the doc I received from the dealer with my order:
MSRP $30,495 + $960 destination and the add-ons.

Dealer was friendly and no pressure.

They got pushed back just a bit with the Gunma shut down. West coast October ETAs are likely going to be very end of Oct or early Nov. And there's always the chance that an Oct ETA VON wasn't matched to a VIN and might stretch out even longer. But, they ARE coming. Hang in there!

Your ETAs could get delayed quite a bit, so try to be understanding of that. Both Subaru and your dealer want to get that car to you ASAP.
Thanks! I had been wondering when VINs get assigned. Not in a huge rush, but I'm glad I ordered when I did.

I've been lurking here every day for 2 months, but finally made a account today. I ordered on 8/6, and have an estimated delivery of October. I'm in Dallas, and I got the first order at my dealer. Ordered a white M6 premium, and added all the STI options. The shifter wasn't available when I ordered, but the dealer ordered it separately for me this week. They quoted me $870 installed, and $400 for just the part. I also ordered the STI side vents from Japanparts, and should have them when the car gets here. I called SOA on Monday of this week for an update, and they are still saying October delivery for me.

Guess since everyone is getting their order out there - placed mine within minutes of the registration opening, so 7/22, for a white 6MT Limited, have most parts on order through the dealer (they said they’re on “back order” but likely were never in stock, probably will be shipping in the weeks following the arrival of the vehicle. MSRP as far as I’m aware - they’ve offered me discounted labor and whatnot on the STI accessories which is nice.

I’ll be sure to post if I get a VIN, hopefully I’d be in the first batch but who knows! Excited!

Got 1k off MSRP without much hassle. Called around every dealer in my area and asked if they were doing MSRP, this one salesman said "I can do you better than MSRP" and boom

Do you all feel the short shifter add on is worth it? Or would there be aftermarket options just as good/if not better?

My first Subaru, trying to familiarize myself with all the companies
