No offense to SG, but that gen 1 torque curve looks strange enough that I’m inclined to doubt all of the dyno charts from that shop, gr86 included. Looking forward to seeing production model gr86 dynos from shops Im more familiar with (and that have dynod a bunch of gen 1’s with more shall we say normal results).

I agree with you too. The ND2 is more 'purists' car. The S2000 is the more deadpan serious track car with a dash of 'fun'. The GR86 is, like Jason Cammisa said, the "Goldilocks car".

I kind of doubt the press cars were running a non-production engine tune with more timing. the only real limitation is just the fuel quality and how much the ecu decides to retard the timing.

206-209 whp so only 8.3%-9.6% powertrain loss? 175 wheel tq for a 5% powertrain loss? That's the headline!

Exactly. Yet the 2020 is 21% loss over claimed factory crank hp and funky torque curve.

Just throwing stuff at the wall here, but it's very possible that the numbers that Toyota and Subaru are providing are just more conservative. There have been many times in the past where cars actually dyno higher than the posted HP numbers.
I am sure we will start to see more and more dyno videos, and impressions, but I will say, I'm very intrigued at the thought of trading in my '13 FRS for one... |

We know that the supra showed better numbers than the factory claimed.

Perhaps the FA24 still actually outputs the same 100-102.5 HP per liter as the FA20. This would give 246 HP, which is closer to the dyno. It only requires them to slightly de-rate the torque at high RPMs, giving them an on-paper peak torque at lower RPM the way marketing needs.
Yeah, yeah, I know they claimed to have had breathing issues in high RPM and it's obviously not that easy to preserve specific output in the bored engine, but I can hope, can't I? |

King has been around for longer than many people on these foums have been alive. They are doing constant setups including setting up racecars. We will have the BRZ on same dyno.

I can also confirm that in Canada they are taking deposits. I put mine down on September 11th, and the dealership took a refundable $1,000 deposit that will contribute toward the final price.
The guy I was working with claimed I was not the first to put a deposit on these things but he also didn’t know much about the car so I wouldn’t put too much stock in that…also gave no indication of delivery timeframe. Which colour did you end up choosing? |
