The auto in the WRX has always been a CVT starting in the last redesign i believe (when they actually offered auto).

I think it looks better than the current one....except for the black wheel well cladding...thats just...a little wierd.

I thought the last one was ugly too. I don't know now why I thought this one would look better. Older WRXs look pretty good, like bugeye era.

To be clear, I would not have gotten an auto for my "fun" car regardless of what type it is. I just feel like if the auto is a CVT then you can't say it is meant to be a sporty car. You have given up at that point. The interior giant tablet look is also not sporty looking to me. I just don't like it.

The tablet screen is the trend now. In the Subaru world, the Legacy/outback had it first i think, then the Levorg, and this WRX was more or less a sedan version of the Levorg. So this doesnt surprise me.

But have you seen the interior of the lower end model, where the tablet screen is gone?

Holy crap is that ever awful looking, since they had to plug in the giant tablet hole with whatever the heck leftover non-tech stuff they had lol.

I do agree the older cars looked better.

The new WRX is visually, awful. It looks like a plastic-clad crossover, especially from the rear.

I don't know if I could get over that single aspect of the car enough to appreciate any of the upsides.

Every WRX is ugly (Including the one of the Colin McRae’s era). I always joked that I like Subaru because when someone would say to hire a studio designer, the manager would say: “Scrap that and hire a chassis engineer”

And I always thought that Subaru ugliness was a characteristic, not something to make me dislike the vehicle.

The side profile (especially the rear fenders) is a huge improvement over the previous gen, which always looked so tall and flat to me. The front and rear fascias are pretty fussy though. I don't mind the black cladding around the bottom of the car but the wheel well trim is pretty bad. And stock WRX wheels never do the car a favor

In the gray it's not bad though, I'd go with it over a Veloster N or GTI

So if anyone actually was cross shopping before my guess is they aren't anymore.

I think it looks pretty much like an evolutionary upgrade of the WRX would look like.

Don't forget. We are talking Subaru here. Very conservative. Very!!!!!

As ugly as I think it is, do you really think it's worse than the Subaru Brat?

At least when they redid it with the Baja it looked better.

The man never even owned one. Lmao.

On a serious note, every redesign is controversial but you end up seeing the car everywhere anyways.

Yup. The vitriol always starts flying when there are exactly 3 pictures online from the worst possible angles. A year later everybody says it looks much better in person and the car enthusiasts photographers are starting to find the ‘good’ angles of the car.

Besides, the WRX was never pretty.
