We're both making assumptions. I'm guessing there will be delays in approval, you're guessing that supply make run dry.

Either way, I haven't read of any systemic abuses but that's an assumption too.

My assumption is that the government has done the calculation accurately, which is why they are implementing the control mechanisms. The strategy is outlined below and seems to be saying there are supply limits. Either the demand is already exceeding the supply resulting in delays, unfilled orders or allocation complications, or the growth in demand and the potential to increase supply is such that demand will overtake supply in the near future based on projections. Either way, something needs to change, so they are temporarily setting limits.

The recent increase in the prevalence of the Delta variant of COVID-19 has caused a substantial surge in the utilization of monoclonal antibody drugs. It remains the goal of the federal government to ensure continued availability of these drugs for current and future patients. As such, HHS is immediately implementing the following changes to help promote optimal and equitable use of the available supply of monoclonal antibodies while we continue efforts to procure additional product:

Please note that this is a temporary change. We will continue to monitor product utilization rates, variant prevalence, and overall availability of monoclonal antibody therapeutics to determine when we will shift back to the normal direct ordering process.

On the second, you sure do... As long as you only harm yourself, directly or indirectly. That sorta makes me think that means you don't get a bed in the ER unless there is available care. If you have covid and you've entrenched on no vaccine, at any rate.

A sense of urgency and incentives like we saw with Operation Warp Speed that got vaccines approved in record time and enough supplies for anyone who chose them.

It isn't reassuring when HHS speaks of "monitor product utilization rates" that create another layer of complexity with the new, open ended HHSProtect mandate that includes an undefined "equitable" treatment requirement. That opens the door to unintended consequences like we saw in my state. The governor used "equity" to withhold vaccines from elderly assisted living residents for months last year in favor of teachers working from home resulting in unnecessary deaths as some of the default Pfizer vaccines expired unused.

As far as healthcare workers quitting over the vaccine, I know of no one at my hospital. A few have threatened it, or they have threatened to use all their PTO, which that hasn't been approved, but they haven't done that, nor do I expect them to do that. I could imagine someone close to retirement wanting to retire early, but I don't know of any. We have lost more nursing to early retirement because of the pandemic, or who have voluntarily left the workforce with plans to return after the pandemic ends. I do know of several unvaccinated workers who have since gotten the vaccine. One said she would just do the J&J vaccine because she doesn't want to have to do two shots. Others have caved from the Delta variant or from the vaccine mandates.

This pretty much mirrors what we are seeing here in our Health System as well. We have not had the vaccine mandated as of yet, but continue to have "hold outs" get the vaccine. I do expect it will become mandated, with the normal exceptions for medical and verified religious purposes.

Additionally concerning, at least to me, is that they don't even make allowances for religious reasons, which seems to be at least part of most other mandates I've seen.

You ever met an Amish software engineer? There are some cases where an individual has to make a choice between following religious rules or the practical necessities of a career path. In first world nations (at least) we have the freedom to make that choice for ourselves, but it is still a choice. If someone cannot demonstrate a safe and efficient alternative to meeting the requirements, then they simply are not qualified for the job.

If someone somewhere were to source said biological matter from a naturally ocurring incident from some sheep somewhere, if that's possible. AFAIK you can't get Ebola on the dark web lol. Only Adderal and Viagra, because you really need to concentrate when you're getting busy lol. Luckily with ACFDC in Atlanta and the equivalent in Winnipeg, this stuff is studied under extreme controls.

A number of years ago there was an incident in my wife's home town where there was a quantity of radioactive material seized from an elderly professor's home. He might have been somewhat senile and anyway there were hazmat suits and all kinds of things surrounding his place.
