Finished off with the rest of my service - engine oil/filter, air filter, pollen filter, brake fluid, clutch fluid, gearbox oil, grease all the latches and catches, tyre rotation, check everything over... basically follow the service schedule. I only did most of this 9 months ago, just wanted to get the car back onto its normal schedule.

I used Motul 300 in the gearbox last time but was still having trouble with the 3-2 change. I've gone with Redline MT-90 this time around and it's immediately much better. Oh and it seems my local Subaru dealer gave me the wrong oil filter last time, so it's got the right one on now.

A day on the spanners doing car stuff is pure therapy for those of us doing desk work all day

It makes me so happy knowing that there are people out there servicing their own vehicles.

Something special about Sunday afternoon greasy fingers.

This morning, I finished installing the FT-86 Speedfactory UEL header with the black ceramic coating. So far so good. It's not significantly better but it is definitely noticeable. No codes thrown yet in my test drive. If it stays that way over the next week, I'll use the OFT stage 2 tune.

By the way, I wanted to do the install back in July. The plan was to do it after getting the annual state inspection sticker. However, I had a stage 1 OFT tune installed, and the MA emissions testing system failed the inspection for having a custom tune. I've had stage 1 tunes installed during inspections before, but this was the first time it got flagged. This happened a week or two before the news about California announcing it would fail cars with custom tunes as well. Due to the weather being a rainy mess for several weeks, it took over a month before I could drive the car sufficiently with the stock tune to get it reinspected. Then I couldn't find any time in August, but this long Labor Day weekend worked out perfectly.

You were correct. I stuck my finger in the vent and pushed on the ribbon cable and bingo...

I have been spending just a couple hours a week for the past several months getting this this to where it is now. This is just where I start finding out what is going to spray/leak when it tries to join the world of the living again.

That's OK though- I'd rather have an oil leak and an injector that needs to be re-seated, than no engine at all!

Full nut + bolt check after ~1100 km this weekend and 2 track days. Swapped back to street brake pads, and cleaned off the shoes. Ceramic coating makes this such an easy job, about 20 minutes for all 4 wheels. Also updated the build thread with more details on the weekend.

Redid my tail light gaskets, this time with a deep socket and torque wrench. Apparently i was nowhere close to 39 inch pounds when i did them the first time (replaced shitty valentis with 2017 OEMs). The compressing foam gaskets really threw me off i guess. I had noticed recently a large gap between the tail light and the chassis, and went duh, no wonder that's why i had water sloshing around in my rear wheel wells when it used to rain in california.
