I think the new gen is gorgeous and I would love to buy one and could buy one. Unfortunately my car only has 70k on it, is rust free and is paid off. I'm on the fence.

my grandfather still cringes at any vehicle nearing 100k miles.

there was a time where 70k was 'time to start looking'...

I am in the same situation, but I am off the fence and keeping my car. If I can I will try to test drive the new one. But it’s not really worth all the work, extra money and taxes.

Yeah, if your car is paid off, running well, and you like it...you should absolutely keep it. It would be crazy to spend that kind of money unless you have a good reason to.

The GTI was only 1/3 of those things and I happily sold it yesterday. I will be carless (sharing the wife's truck) until the BRZ gets delivered in hopefully November.

Just 2-3 months to go

mine's at 51k.

after dealing with a string of used vehicles where i play catch-up on the previous owners deferred maintenance for the first 3-6 years, or need to spend upwards of 3 days detailing the vehicle so it doesn't look terrible anymore, i'm really happy to finally have a car that started out as clean as i like, and i know exactly where all the maintenance is, so there's no surprises..

so i finally get cheap registration taxes, AND low maintenance!

IMO i really like the rpm needle.

One time i was playing cat and mouse with a local on his turf and was sticking to him like glue. I was pinning 4th and was hella focused on not dying in an epic fire ball cuz the roads had mad sweepers. i can see on the bottom of my peripheral, the top of the needle directly vertical, inching closer to redline. all i needed to know while deadlocked in fierce battle.

great design.

My car is paid off, running well, and I like it. That being said, I still intend to get a GR86. The challenge will be justifying not trading in the FR-S when buying the GR86. "Honey, our son's going to need a car too when he gets his license... in 8 years."

I'm just super excited for someone else to buy the first totaled GR and let the rest of us know if the engine swap is easy.

I only wish I had that kind of money, congrats!

I’m a little envious of that new motor, but that’s about it. I feel like the next-gen has lost some definition in the front wings that I really liked, by moving them inboard, visually. I also greatly prefer the interior architecture of the early cars. I’ve been really conservative with the mods to my 2013 thus far, so it still feels like a blank canvas to me. Doubt I’ll be upgrading.

I think if you have a newer first gen, like 2017+, jumping into a second gen might not make sense. At least not until your car is older. All the little refinements that were made to gen one, especially after 2017, make it an awesome car.

That being said; I think anyone who loves this platform will be very impressed after driving a second gen. That extra torque down low is going to make such a big difference in everyday driving. The chassis is much stiffer also. My FR-S had a million creaks and rattles, and crickets. I still love the heck out of that car. I bought a Corolla Hatch for a little more utility and a back seat, but I will be getting a second gen 86 or BRZ at some point. I’m waiting to see if there will be a factory performance package.
