Fact is that Subaru attempted to improve the car, Toyota decided to deliberately design toe-out on compression into the rear axle by sticking to the old subframe and tweaking the bushings. They caught flak with it for the Supra, I suspect they will on this platform too. |

Have we considered that we might not have seen all the reviews yet? I would imagine a possibility exists that the more popular reviewers may have been given a car to go do as they please with instead of just laps at Lime Rock, so we might see better comparison videos coming? Who knows.

These might already be posted elsewhere (I couldn't find them), these are the first drive reviews I've seen on the second-generation BRZ (as opposed to all the reviews of the 86 hat have been out for a while):
https://www.autoblog.com/2021/08/30/...z-first-drive/ https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...aru-brz-drive/ https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/42...ded-more-power EDIT: I see now there are numerous reviews popping up on line; it seems they're all being posted now or within the past 24 hours. |

Can't remember which web review site it was, but some of the comments said the engine noise speaker was the reason not to buy this car.

Sounds like the kind of person who severely complains about a ton of small things. The sound is not overpowering, it's pleasant, and we all know about 30 seconds after the first few are delivered someone will figure out how to unplug it.

As silly as it might sound, that would be a deal-breaker for me. I just couldn't live with myself, every time I got into the car knowing that the engine 'sound' I was hearing was fake, piped in through the speakers. It's just so wrong. Especially on what's supposed to be a pure, elemental sports car. |

Talks about the differences between the two, not much of substance tbh though.

The initial reviews have been very positive for the GR86, not everyone will like the more buttoned down rear end as a fun track car - new is not always better. Remember, lotus, who are completely anal about weight reduction, have kept a heavy iron wheel knuckle across the elise, exige, evora... They believe in it, even though thing like the last evora is fully aluminium and composite materials - except the wheel knuck. So I think there is something to consider about selecting older tech for specific reasons. |

This is a stark contrast to Toyota who had guys like Matt Farah, Jason Cammisa and such who can hoon a car properly around a track. This makes me think the BRZ is just understeery at the limit compared to the GR86 which is more eager to have the backend step out on entry. This latter part is key for someone like me who will do autocross and time attack. The BRZ's tendency to bore me will ... well ... bore me. At least the GR86 means I'll have to dial back some of the oversteer with an alignment which is what I'm definitely doing as soon as I prep for any sort of competition. GR86 is the real win for me for competition or serious lap times.

According to the engineers, the sound frequencies generated by the engine are pumped into the cabin with specific ranges of those frequencies being amplified over others. I cant remember the range off hand, but there were two ranges in particular they enhanced. So while this still might be unacceptable for people, and they might want to disconnect the speaker (as of course many will), the actual noise you hear isnt like say a computer game noise, or an electric car noise which is completely manufactured, this is still engine/intake noise from machinery operating in the car affected by every bump, your slip of the clutch, etc. etc. |

What I would be more inclined to believe is that they used an anechoic dyno chamber and got samples from many loads and RPMs, created their desired sound profile from that and THAT is what is being generated inside the car. Engineers like to say things. Remember how they said the supra team split off from the Z4 team after the foundations of the cars had been laid and hand't worked together beyond that? The actual car turned out to be a parts bin job where they didn't even bother changing the BMW door chime. Anyway, it still sounds like junk and Gran Turismo Sport made a better job of generating a fake engine noise for the GT86 years ago. |
