I'm still blown away that they are awarding points for following the pace car around for 2 laps. F1 Really needs to take a long hard look at their massive and stupid rule book. Just cancel the race or postpone to the next day.

They couldn't postpone it a day, there was an article on that. They have to be at the next track by thursday and the marshals are volunteers who need to work their day jobs on Monday.

The pace car should have been the race winner it was always in 1st position!
The running of the race a day later would have been a very hard option to take, The marshals are volunteers who work during the week, good luck getting enough back to safely run a race. The racing organization would have to re-book hotels and rental cars for one more day , good luck with that. The FIA wanted an official race possibly due to money contracts and it will be interesting if those wet and now possibly sick fans will get anything that looks like a refund. “Stefano Domenicali insisted the late attempt to start the Belgian Grand Prix was not made for financial reasons.” A race in those conditions would have been not if but when would a bad accident take place, Perez lost it just in the warm up lap. ( I also admire that the FIA took 45 minutes to check the rule book on Perez return being legal ,WTF) The winners here were the Beer & raincoat vendors who got an extended period to hawk their necessities. The drivers were an even mix for their opinion of the race cancellation, https://www.espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id...d-prix-washout Some good news, Mazepin Did not spin out and managed to get the fastest lap but they did not award him any points for that… |

Kimi announces retirement. Well earned.
Can't wait to see what he gets into next.

Finns are odd, even their dogs (I have one). They seem happiest when things go wrong. I'll give Kimi props for seeming effusive compared to sullen Mika Häkkinen. I still remember his 2005 130R overtake of Fisichella at Suzuka, total commitment, total psychopath. |
